Today, I am sharing with you a handsome brown mug that was designed in celebration of Tim Horton's 50th Birthday in 2014.
Fairly simple with a stylistic white number 50 etched out of the brown area, it is bilingual in English and French and also reads Since / Depuis 1964. The reverse side has Tim Hortons etched in a vertical, cursive print and the bottom denotes the status of this mug as a Limited Edition item.
I love the chocolate color since it reminds me of a steamy hot cup of hot chocolate. The bottom does not say dishwasher or microwave safe and while I am certain it would suit the first appliance, you'd have to test it out and see if it suits the second.
It is reasonably sized measuring 4 1/2 inches tall and 3 1/4 inches wide across the top without the handle and holds 16 ounces of your favorite beverage, whether that be Tim Hortons' coffee, steeped tea or something else. Personally, I am a tea drinker so you will find only tea and hot chocolate in my mug!
As I write this seven years have passed since the release of this mug. If you want to own it you will have to look at the secondary market and I recommend looking for it here, on eBay.
Tim Hortons' fans will want to raise this mug in celebration of the 50th birthday of their favorite restaurant.
Everyone knows Dr. Seuss' The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and anyone who knows and loves the classic Christmas story will want to add one of these fun coffee mugs to their collection.
THE STORY & HISTORY
The Grinch Who Stoles Christmas lives alone near a fictional town named Whoville. He hates both the people who live there and Christmas. In the town lives a little girl named Cindy Lou Who who loves Christmas and the spirit of Christmas and goes about trying to reform the Grinch.
The story has seen many versions but was first published in 1957 as both a book and a magazine story. It became an animated cartoon on television through the now classic television special starring the voice of Boris Karloff in 1966. In 2000, there was a live action version starring Jim Carrey. In 2007, it was made into a musical. In 2018, it was released again as an animated version starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Finally, in 2020, it was released once more as an animated movie starring Matthew Morrison.
THE COFFEE MUGS
I did not have to look far to find some interesting Grinch-themed coffee mugs and I am happy to share them here as number 14 in my 31 Days of Coffee Mugs series. You'll find cups here by Dept. 56, Vandor, Williams Sonoma and Lohtu Ceramics.
DEPARTMENT 56 MUGS
Shown above are three fun Department 56 Grinch coffee mugs. If you'd like a collection of similar but different mugs, this series would be a great choice and these three are just a few from the series.
I am amazed at how many Grinch-themed mugs Dept. 56 has made. The Grinch mugs shown below including the hand gripping the coffee mug and the mug with all of the grumpy text are also by Department 56. Find all of Amazon's Department 56 Grinch-themed mugs here.
This hand-shaped mug appears to be retired now. However, if you want to add it to your collection I see a couple of them available right now by clicking here to eBay.
This Expressions mug with all of the words on it from nope to pleasee to really, what?! and why? appears to be retired as well. However, you can find it here on eBay.
VANDOR GRINCH COFFEE MUGS
Shown below are two of Vandor's recent Grinch-themed mugs. Vandor has created a number of uniquely barrel shaped mugs that include the Naughty or Nice mug and the face shaped or sculpted mug shown below them. You will find all of Amazon's Vandor Grinch mugs here.
The Grinch Nice and Naughty Vandor mug as well as the face-shaped mugs have both also been retired but you can find them by following this link to eBay for the Nice and Naughty mugand this link for Vandor's Grinch-faced themed mug. There have been a few versions of these mugs. I think you will be pleased with the selection of new, used and retired pieces.
WILLIAMS SONOMA GRINCH MUG
I also found this more classically styled Grinch mug from Williams Sonoma. I gather that it was a part of that company's line of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas items, which has been discontinued. If you'd like to add this mug to your collection, you'll have to use eBay's Saved Search feature and wait for one to show up. Meanwhile, you can see if one is available and check out Williams Sonoma's complete Grinch line by clicking here to eBay.
I looked for vintage Grinch coffee mugs and was unable to find any older pieces. It would appear that famous franchises like this one were not producing movie merchandise in support of their endeavors in the 1950s and 1960s. However, there is a Hallmark Grinch mug that is somewhat vintage that is available on eBay. If you're after the Hallmark Grinch mug, you will find it here on eBay. Add the word vintage to your search to see what might be available.
ART POTTERY GRINCH GREEN MUGS
The final mug that I will share with you here today is a beautiful handmade art pottery mug from Etsy. It is for those who want to have a mug in the color of the Grinch but that that is a little more subtle in design. I love all of the mugs on this page but this is, in my opinion, the handsomest one. If you appreciate a handcrafted piece of pottery, find this one by Lianna Klassen Art here on Etsy. I think a mug like this one is a great substitute for Grinch green!
If you could pick one Grinch-themed coffee cup, which one would it be?

It turned out that Anthropologie's Buoyant Letters coffee mugs were very popular. They are handsome pieces featuring an off-white background with blue water and horizon themed images and letters.
I love the idea that with mugs that have an initial letter you can have a personalized mug for all of the members of your family in your cupboard. No more mixing up mugs. Of course, you can just have one for you.
These mugs are stoneware and Anthropologie says they are dishwasher and microwave safe. They measure 5 1/4 inches tall by 4 inches wide with a slight variations in size. They will hold approximately 20 ounces of your favorite hot and steamy beverage.
For those attached to Alexa, I am pleased to have discovered for the eighth day of my 31 day mug series this fun "Alexa Make Me Coffee" mug by Brooke and Jess Designs. It is a ceramic mug designed to look like an enameled tin camping mug with, of course, the textual reference to Amazon's Alexa.
Alexa, for those who don't know, is Amazon's virtual assistant that interacts with users by interpreting voice commands for playing music, making lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, providing the news, the weather and so on.
This Alexa mug is ceramic and it is both dishwasher and microwave safe. It measures 5 inches by 5 inches by 6 inches, holds 14 ounces of your favorite hot and steamy beverage and it is readily available from Amazon by clicking right here.
Order this mug for someone you know but be warned. Alexa still won't get your coffee.
I love how the coffee mug you use can reflect your personality, your mood, your interests!
Netflix's new hit series, The Queen's Gambit is leading the a surge of interest for the game of chess. Netflix announced when the series hit 62 million viewers that it was the platform's most-watched scripted series ever.
Apparently, searches for 'how to play chess' and demand for chess games has skyrocketed. eBay reported a 273 percent increase in searches for 'chess sets' immediately following the series’ release. Indeed, I recently sold the one and only chess set that I had in my eBay store. I was surprised but I should have seen it coming.
Unfortunately in this case, Netflix series do not arrive with a plethora of merchandise, the way movies sometimes do. I went searching for an official The Queen's Gambit coffee mug but came up empty handed. I even struggled simply to find a NICE chess-themed mug and not a modern day creation that simply had a chess quote or black and white picture on it. In the end, however, I found this attractive stoneware mug from Mara.
Mara's mug measures 5 inches by 3.75 inches and holds 16 ounces of your favorite steaming hot beverage. Conveniently, it is dishwasher and microwave safe.
Reviews of this design in particular are few but other mugs by the company in the same shape have good reviews with a couple of things to watch out for. First, be aware of the size as some people found the mug bigger than they expected and second, be aware of the irregular nature of these hand crafted pieces. Items that are handmade often vary slightly from piece to piece in terms of quality and painting style.
This mug is a functional and affordable piece of artwork, making it a great gift idea for anyone who loves chess. Order your Mara chess-themed mug from Amazon by clicking here or on eBay by clicking here. Be sure to come back and tell us what you think of the mug if you do decide to buy it.
2020 is almost over and I know most of us will be glad to see the year gone and the new one (along with a Covid-19 vaccine) arrive. Despite the rough year or maybe in spite of it, I have seen some very interesting coffee mugs and I am once again going to bring you a collection of interesting, wonderful, beautiful, handsome, unique, new, used and even vintage coffee mugs. This is the third 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS series and so without further ado, let me share the first of my finds for 2020.
I always start with the Starbucks mug that celebrates the year. This year it is in the form of a rat because 2020 is the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac.
This rat is rather cute, I'd say but maybe that is more interesting than drinking your coffee or tea from a realistic looking rat mug! It is reasonable in size and will hold 14 ounces of your favorite hot and steamy beverage.
The picture on this page is shared courtesy of SDotty on eBay. You can find this mug in her eBay store by clicking right here and you can see all the rest of her fabulous Starbucks mugs (and she has a lot of them) by clicking right here.
So begins another month of great coffee mugs. Whether you are an intentional or an unintentional collector, I know you will enjoy seeing some of the coffee mugs that I have discovered for you.
Will you be adding a rat-themed coffee mug to your collection?
You never know what mugs I might have in store for you!
I wrapped up my second 31 Days of Coffee Mugs series in 2016 late and created this index

You never know what I might
have in store for you!
We celebrated Canada Day 2020 quietly at home because of the virus situation throughout the country and the world and lifting a Canadian-themed coffee mug seemed appropriate though of course, it is appropriate all year long.
I know that I should have shared these fun provincial mugs in advance of Canada Day rather than afterward. They are a wonderfully simple tribute to Canada and its provinces and territories though I do not actually know if the mugs produced included Canada's Territories.
For those who do not know, the Canadian provinces and territories are thirteen in number and include Albert, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.
Each of the mugs features a white exterior and a different color on the inside. On the outside, they have black illustrations of items that you associate with each particular province. For instance, the Nova Scotia mug, features the ocean and a lobster, a tall ship that could be Nova Scotia's iconic Bluenose, a whale and a lighthouse.
I love that you can pick the province that you were born in, the one that you lived in or the one that you visited, which makes them a wonderful souvenir or a gift idea for everyone on your list.
Do you love Halloween? Are you looking for a new Halloween-themed coffee mug? Maybe the best one? Personally, I love many, many of the Halloween mugs out there but this one is definitely one of my favorites. It is just so darned attractive.
This is a Wicked mug, pun intended. I love the dramatic coloring of black on the outside and purple on the inside with a punch of green thrown in for good measure.
As a Wizard of Oz fan, I love the reference to that series and to the he hit Broadway musical called Wicked.
The mug is by Our Name is Mud, holds 16 ounces of your favorite hot and steamy beverage and it is both microwave and dishwasher safe.
Use it to warn your family and friends that if they do not behave, you may just have to call the flying monkeys.
As I update this post in 2024, this mug does not seem to be in production anymore. You can check on Amazon by following this link.
It has been awhile since I have posted a mug here on this blog. However, that is not to say that I have not seen more than a few fabulous pieces. I just stumbled across this totally terrific Tim Hortons mug, which celebrates Canada's 150th Birthday Party. The party is happening July 1, 2017 and I am sure that if you are in Canada, you have not missed the fact that we are celebrating though you may have missed this mug.
Because of this huge celebration, there are a lot of red and white merchandise options out there but I know that this officially licensed mug, with the cool comic-style patriotic images of the loon, ice skating, maple syrup, the maple leaf, beavers, curling, etc., is the perfect souvenir choice for many of you. Of course, it also includes images of Tim Hortons coffee, Timbits and donuts, an important tradition in Canada.
The text reads, "CANADA celebrating 150 Years – Tim Hortons."
I love the red interior, too, which features a maple leaf in the bottom and I also love that it is dishwasher and microwave safe.
It is reasonably sized measuring 4 inches tall and 3.75 inches wide (without the handle) and holds 14 oz of your favorite steamy hot beverage, whether that be Tim Hortons' coffee or something else. Personally, I am a tea drinker so you will find only tea in my coffee mugs!
This mug is a limited edition mug and available only while supplies last. I suspect that it could be a hot seller since Canada really is gearing up for a fantastic party. If for whatever reason you are unable to find this mug locally, know that you can find it readily available on eBay by clicking right here.
How about it? Would you like to lift a Tim Hortons' mug in celebration of our national holiday and the birthday of our nation? Are you a Canadian in Canada, a Canadian who lives away or just someone who loves Canada? Be sure to take a moment and say hello and tell us where you hail from and whether or not Tim Hortons figures in the mix when you think of Canada. Happy Birthday, Canada!
This will no doubt NOT be my only post about Anthropologie mugs though it does represent my recent introduction to the fantastic, FABULOUS and fun coffee mugs that the trendy chain carries.
The design shown here is an artisan-made by Linda Fahey, a Northern California ceramicist who is inspired by the waves and the light of the Pacific Ocean and therefore adds a maritime element to her work. Anthropologie carried Pacifica, this line of dishes that feature Fahey's art in 2016.
I first discovered the rounded mug shown here, which features a beige background with a textured design on the outside and a cobalt blue sailing boat on the bottom of the interior. It measures 2 7/8 inches (7.4 cms) tall and 4 inches (10 cms) wide across the opening excluding the handle and it is both dishwasher and microwave safe. I later discovered that there was a whole line of very handsome dishes available in this pattern.
Unfortunately, Anthropologie no longer carries this pattern, which means you will have to turn to alternative sources to find this mug and the line of dishes. Right now, you can find a few pieces from Linda Fahey's Pacifica pattern on eBay by clicking here.
See you at the coffee bar
though it will be
tea in my mug!
Here's a coffee mug that will make you and all the science geeks in your world smile. It's a laboratory themed beaker with a molecule on the front. A caffeine molecule, that is.
The flip side shows your current caffeine-powered status, based on how much of your first cup of coffee you have processed. I am sure you can relate to going from inanimate to lethargic, grumpy, irritable, apathetic, intelligent and finally, genius.
As I B Geekin' says, boldly embrace your inner geek. This glass coffee cup has been made by science geeks for science geeks and loved by everyone. I love a coffee mug that makes me smile! If you do and you are hooked on chemistry and caffeine, this mug is the one for you but don't forget all those other caffeine addicted members of your family. They will love it, too.
Once again, Peanuts' Snoopy is preparing to celebrate the holidays. On this handsome blue Vandor mug, he is preparing to open his Christmas stocking. He's not alone though as his tiny little friend Woodstock is also celebrating the season with a stack of Christmas presents!
The details? This festive holiday cup holds 18 ounces and is dishwasher and microwave friendly.
2017 Update: This coffee mug appears to be out of production but is still available (at a premium as is the case when things are no longer made) from private sellers on Amazon by clicking on any of the pictures on this page.
Here's hoping that your favorite coffee mug overflows with your choice of hot and steamy beverage this holiday season.
I love the holiday season and I love coffee mugs! How about you?
I know, it is not Christmastime yet but it will be before long so today I am featuring this hot chocolate themed tea towel, which features two adorable Christmas coffee mugs on a kitchen flour sack. The tea towel comes with a recipe card for peppermint cocoa, too. I only wish I knew where to buy those coffee mugs because they are too cute. Nevertheless, I love the tea towel and I think that it would make a great addition to a hot chocolate themed Christmas gift idea! Pick up a Christmas-themed coffee mug, some hot chocolate and this tea towel. Bundled together they'd make a great thank you or hostess gift for someone who loves Christmas and hot chocolate.
This particular tea towel may no longer be available but I see a host of Mary Lake Thompson Christmas items here on Amazon. You are sure to find one you love!

I apologize in advance if this humorous vintage coffee mug is no longer available. However, some mugs just beg to be shared and I wanted to add this one to my collection here online before it disappeared forever.
What is it about this mug that appealed to me? Well, the comment on the side made me smile. It reads, "Don't borrow trouble, borrow money then trouble will follow you."
Of course, the bold orange color is also appealing.
Created by Prestige Ceramics and Crown Art Products in Canada, it would surely be a one of a kind gift idea for someone who is in the business of borrowing (or should I say lending) money, LOL.
If you are interested in buying it - maybe you are a banker - visit Swhirling Dervish's store on Etsy by clicking this link. If this one is no longer available, maybe you will find another vintage mug that appeals to you. Alternatively, you can also check for this Don't Borrow Trouble Borrow Money mug here on eBay.

Woo Hoo! Along with the new Muppets movie The Muppets: Most Wanted came a handsome new new line of coffee mugs from Disney.
On this page, celebrate your love of this very successful movie franchise that started many years ago with a humble man by the name of Jim Henson, which now continues on with the hugely successful movie company, Disney. A Muppet coffee mug is an affordable, practical and personal gift idea for anyone who is obsessed with The Muppets!
2021 UPDATE: These handsome mugs are discontinued. Some of them are still available through Amazon by following the links shown below but if you have no luck there, be sure to look for these Muppets Most Wanted mugs on eBay by clicking here.
Kermit the Frog Coffee Mug
There is no question in my mind that Kermit the Frog is Jim Henson’s most popular Muppet character though some would argue that Miss Piggy ranks right up there, too. Kermit the Frog was introduced to the world by Henson in 1955 long before The Muppet Show and Kermit eventually went on to star in many programs including but not limited to The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. More recently Kermit and the whole gang have had a comeback led by the Disney Company that has included two very successful movies, The Muppets and The Muppets: Most Wanted. This Kermit the Frog Most Wanted coffee mug is a simple, affordable way to show you love Kermit the Frog, the little green guy who brought us the Rainbow Connection and so much more.
Miss Piggy Coffee Mug
Miss Piggy started out with a small role on The Muppet Show but, as you all know, her role is now as big as her personality. She is one diva of a pig. One who loves the limelight and will stop at nothing in pursuit of what she wants. She is, as Frank Oz who played her in The Muppet Show said, “A truck driver wanting to be a woman.” If you relate to Miss Piggy in any way or simply desire to have every Muppet in your coffee mug collection, you will want to own this mug in which the starlet is, as usual, very pretty in pink.
Animal Coffee Mug
Wow! Animal is not to be missed physically or visually and nor is this coffee mug. It's brilliant! Animal is the CRAZY drummer originally from The Muppet band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem and was created by Michael Frith. Wikipedia says that Animal first appeared in 1976 on The Muppet Show. Whether you think of yourself as an animal or not, this Animal-themed coffee mug is a simple, affordable way to show you love the crazy red Muppet drummer. Find Animal on Amazon here.
Gonzo Coffee Mug
Although I think of him loosely as Gonzo, Gonzo is actually The Great Gonzo. Gonzo appeared first in 1970 in a Christmas program called The Great Santa Claus Switch. Like Miss Piggy, he started as a minor character but has grown to be much more than that. There's something special about Gonzo. That might be because he's a puppet NOT based on a human being or an animal. If you like him because his physical attributes, which include blue fur, purple feathers, bug-eyes and a hooked nose, make him different, this is the mug to add to your collection. Find Gonzo on Amazon here.
Fozzie Coffee Mug
Here’s the comedian of the bunch. Fozzie is a great big fuzzy teddy bear of sorts who, like Miss Piggy and Animal, also made his first appearance on The Muppet Show. He’s a stand-up comedian whose jokes, well, often just don’t work. If you’re inclined to crack jokes whether successfully or unsuccessfully and you like repeating Fozzie’s trademark "Wocka Wocka Wocka," then this is the Most Wanted coffee mug for you. Find Fozzie on Amazon here.
Which of these Muppets Most Wanted coffee mugs do you like the best? Is there a Muppet mug in your future?
A FINAL NOTE: When I first wrote this page in 2014, these mugs were readily available and affordable. Of course, once they go out of production, they become harder to find and more expensive. If the links shown above on this page do not lead you to a successful buying opportunity on Amazon, use this link to check out all of the Muppets Most Wanted coffee mugs on eBay. Good luck to you in your search!

This Emma Bridgewater mug is another darling piece in the line that celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. It measures 3.5 inches in height and holds 10.5 ounces of your favorite hot beverage. You can click here to see what mugs from this series are currently available from eBay.
The product line, however, included other attractive pieces like a teapot, a dish cloth, a plate and an apron.
I am a tea drinker -- I always put tea in my coffee mugs and I would really put this beautiful Emma Bridgewater Diamond Jubilee teapot to good use. It is also made in Emma Bridgewater's factory from English earthenware. It measures 8 inches tall and holds 4 cups of tea, brewed exactly as you like it, of course.
One review that I read was from a buyer who says that she purchased this teapot for her 88 year old mother who is British. She says that her mother loved the sentiment "Steadfast and True" that is written on the teapot as well as the fact that this teapot celebrates the Queen and her Diamond Jubilee. The teapot now resides in the center of her mother's treasured display!
When I first wrote this page, these pieces were available on Amazon. However, when I was looking today I discovered that there are not many of these items available there anymore. You can, however, find them on eBay by clicking right here.
Any of the pieces in this set would make a wonderful gift idea for someone who follows the life of Britain's Royal Family and who has a royal memorabilia collection. I would love to own them all and I do not have a Royal Family collection. How about you? Are you a fan? Of the Queen and her family? Of Emma Bridgewater?

Emma Bridgewater says, "I'm a coffee addict and can't really get through the morning without it, so I was delighted when Starbucks asked me to design a mug that really encapsulated everything that was great about Britain."
If you love a handsome mug like the ones produced by Emma Bridgewater and the ones produced by Starbucks, you will LOVE this collaboration between the two companies, which saw the production of a mug that fans of both brands and of Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family will love.
In 2012, Starbucks commissioned Emma Bridgewater to create a limited edition mug for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration. A limited run of only 6,000 of the mugs were made, guaranteeing it to become a very special collector's item indeed.
On this page, if you have not already seen it, you can check out this unusual and very handsome Starbucks coffee mug, learn a bit more about it and even find out where you can buy one for your collection.

What's The Story of Starbucks' Emma Bridgewater Diamond Jubilee Coffee Mug?
The Starbucks' Diamond Jubilee coffee mug was handmade in Emma Bridgewater's Victorian factory in Staffordshire, England and features that company's design talents and fine craftsmanship. At the end of May, 2012, it was sold at about one hundred Starbucks coffee shops.
Are These Starbucks Mugs Really Handmade?
In a blog post on Starbucks' blog, Emma Bridgewater says that at their factory, the Staffordshire Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent, they make and decorate each and every piece by hand. The company feels that it is important to keep these skills going and do so in a Victorian factory that strives to meet the area's heritage of world class ceramics. They believe it is important to nurture talent and maintain the manufacturing heritage of Britain.

This short video will give you an idea HOW Emma Bridgewater products are made and, if you are anything like me, it will make you want to travel to England to visit the factory. I have been to England but was blissfully unaware of Emma Bridgewater at the time.
You Can Own A Limited Edition Emma Bridgewater Starbucks Coffee Mug Via the Sellers on eBay
I've never actively followed interest in a limited edition mug like this Starbucks & Emma Bridgewater mug. Since only 6,000 mugs were made, I'd assume that demand and the value of these mugs will only increase. As I write this, this handsome piece is selling on eBay for up to $60 plus shipping.
