Anne of Green Gables Coffee Mug

This lovely ceramic Anne of Green Gables coffee mug is from the Etsy creator, Vintage Dahlia Co. It features charming cottagecore-style typography in green and brown tones alongside a quaint illustration of the fictional Green Gables house in Prince Edward Island.

Green Gables is depicted with a small illustration of the two-story green house with a gabled roof. The entire design is framed with fall-themed leaves that will remind you of Anne’s feeling, “I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers!” The text is done in a hand-drawn cursive style with dark forest green tones.

The mug is available in 11 or 15 ounces, is microwave and dishwasher safe and features a standard C-shaped handle.

I think that a mug is always a great gift idea because it is practical and because it can be chosen with your recipient, in this case Anne of Green Gables and Anne Shirley, in mind. What Anne fan would not want to have their coffee or tea served in it?

Breakfast at Tiffany's Girlie Coffee Mug

Though I am not a girly girl, I cannot help but love girl-themed coffee mugs like this one that I just discovered on Etsy. It's perfect for anyone who is a girlie girl, a fashionista and even for those of us who just love Audrey Hepburn and the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's. It's a vintage piece, having been made in 2009 by Avela. 

If you want to add it to your collection, I recommend searching here on Etsy or here on eBay. As I write this, I see that there is one available on each of those websites.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Ten Great Grinch Coffee Mugs

Everyone knows Dr. Seuss' The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and anyone who knows and loves the classic Christmas story will want to add one of these fun coffee mugs to their collection.

THE STORY & HISTORY

The Grinch Who Stoles Christmas lives alone near a fictional town named Whoville. He hates both the people who live there and Christmas. In the town lives a little girl named Cindy Lou Who who loves Christmas and the spirit of Christmas and goes about trying to reform the Grinch.

The story has seen many versions but was first published in 1957 as both a book and a magazine story.  It became an animated cartoon on television through the now classic television special starring the voice of Boris Karloff in 1966. In 2000, there was a live action version starring Jim Carrey.  In 2007, it was made into a musical. In 2018, it was released again as an animated version starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Finally, in 2020, it was released once more as an animated movie starring Matthew Morrison. 

THE COFFEE MUGS

I did not have to look far to find some interesting Grinch-themed coffee mugs and I am happy to share them here as number 14 in my 31 Days of Coffee Mugs series. You'll find cups here by Dept. 56, Vandor, Williams Sonoma and Lohtu Ceramics. 

DEPARTMENT 56 MUGS

Shown above are three fun Department 56 Grinch coffee mugs. If you'd like a collection of similar but different mugs, this series would be a great choice and these three are just a few from the series. 

I am amazed at how many Grinch-themed mugs Dept. 56 has made. The Grinch mugs shown below including the hand gripping the coffee mug and the mug with all of the grumpy text are also by Department 56.  Find all of Amazon's Department 56 Grinch-themed mugs here.

This hand-shaped mug appears to be retired now. However, if you want to add it to your collection I see a couple of them available right now by clicking here to eBay.

This Expressions mug with all of the words on it from nope to pleasee to really, what?! and why? appears to be retired as well. However, you can find it here on eBay. 

VANDOR GRINCH COFFEE MUGS

Shown below are two of Vandor's recent Grinch-themed mugs. Vandor has created a number of uniquely barrel shaped mugs that include the Naughty or Nice mug and the face shaped or sculpted mug shown below them. You will find all of Amazon's Vandor Grinch mugs here.

The Grinch Nice and Naughty Vandor mug as well as the face-shaped mugs have both also been retired but you can find them by following this link to eBay for the Nice and Naughty mug and this link for Vandor's Grinch-faced themed mug. There have been a few versions of these mugs. I think you will be pleased with the selection of new, used and retired pieces.

WILLIAMS SONOMA GRINCH MUG

I also found this more classically styled Grinch mug from Williams Sonoma. I gather that it was a part of that company's line of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas items, which has been discontinued. If you'd like to add this mug to your collection, you'll have to use eBay's Saved Search feature and wait for one to show up. VINTAGE GRINCH MUGS

I looked for vintage Grinch coffee mugs and was unable to find any older pieces. It would appear that famous franchises like this one were not producing movie merchandise in support of their endeavors in the 1950s and 1960s.  However, there is a Hallmark Grinch mug that is somewhat vintage that is available on eBay. If you're after the Hallmark Grinch mug, you will find it here on eBay. Add the word vintage to your search to see what might be available. 

ART POTTERY GRINCH GREEN MUGS

The final mug that I will share with you here today is a beautiful handmade art pottery mug from Etsy. It is for those who want to have a mug in the color of the Grinch but that that is a little more subtle in design. I love all of the mugs on this page but this is, in my opinion, the handsomest one. If you appreciate a handcrafted piece of pottery, find this one by Lianna Klassen Art here on Etsy.  I think a mug like this one is a great substitute for Grinch green!

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Vintage McCoy Smiley Face Mug

Here is the mug that everyone needs this year, the year that challenged all of us to stay safe and be happy. It is a vintage 1971 McCoy coffee mug and unlike some vintage mugs, it is readily and affordably available from many resellers on eBay.

McCoy's line of pieces included mugs, planters, banks and cookie jars. It is sometimes referred to with the word ‘Smiley’ and other times with the word ‘Happy.’ Whichever way you care to call it, it was very popular in the 1970s, which may account for why it so easily found today.

These mugs measure approximately 4 inches tall and will hold 12 ounces of your favorite hot and steamy beverage. I think that they also make wonderful display pieces whether you want to put a plant in yours or use it as a flower vase or even as a pencil holder.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Molly Hatch Animal and Mythical Creatures Mugs

For the eleventh day of Christmas...no, it's actually the eleventh day of my 31 Days of Coffee Mugs series, I bring you another enduring favorite by Molly Hatch whose Christmas mugs I wrote about yesterday on this post. Like the ones on yesterday's post, these mugs are also fun and whimsical though these ones include animals and mythical creatures. They're done in an attractive off-white color with a blue stripe near the top and a blue pen-and-ink illustration.  

Molly Hatch's artwork can be found on everything from furniture to jewelry to ceramic pieces like that scene on these handsome mugs, which feature mythical critters that include unicorns, jackalopes, narwhals, sloths as well as real creatures like grasshoppers, llamas and dogs. The dog breeds have included the ever popular Dachshund, French Bulldog and Corgi.

Originally these drawings were produced by Molly Hatch in collaboration with Anthropologie but it seems that your best source for these retired mugs now is eBay.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Toy Story Mugs

Disney Pixar's Toy Story needs no introduction. The award-winning movie series debut in 1995 and was a huge hit everywhere including in our household where there were two little boys who loved Woody and Buzz.  Since then, the familiar characters have entertained us through a total of four movies with a rumored number five on the way.  

We all know that 2020 has been a year of challenges because of the virus. In the movie world, this has meant the closing of theatres and a reduction in film production. Will there be a fifth movie? The answer to that question is still unknown so we will just have to wait and see if our beloved characters will return.

Anyway, today is Day 5 in my current 31 Days of Coffee Mugs series and I am thrilled to present these handsome limited edition Toy Story coffee mugs. They were originally sold through the Disney Store in commemoration of Toy Story's 20th Anniversary. They feature the original sketches and concept art for Woody and Buzz Lightyear.

These retired mugs are generously sized, measuring 4 5/8 inches (11.8 cms) in height and 3 3/8 inches (8.6 cms) across the top and are both microwave and dishwasher safe.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Chalkboard Coffee Mugs

Why not put your coffee mug to work? Use it as a form of communication!  Grab your chalk and get ready to play with your coffee today. 

For the fourth day in my 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUG 2020 series, I bring you chalkboard coffee mugs. The exterior surface is used as a blackboard allowing you to pick up a piece of chalk and personalize the mug in any way you like.

Canadian Province Coffee Mugs

We celebrated Canada Day 2020 quietly at home because of the virus situation throughout the country and the world and lifting a Canadian-themed coffee mug seemed appropriate though of course, it is appropriate all year long.

I know that I should have shared these fun provincial mugs in advance of Canada Day rather than afterward. They are a wonderfully simple tribute to Canada and its provinces and territories though I do not actually know if the mugs produced included Canada's Territories.

For those who do not know, the Canadian provinces and territories are thirteen in number and include Albert, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.

Each of the mugs features a white exterior and a different color on the inside. On the outside, they have black illustrations of items that you associate with each particular province. For instance, the Nova Scotia mug, features the ocean and a lobster, a tall ship that could be Nova Scotia's iconic Bluenose, a whale and a lighthouse.

I love that you can pick the province that you were born in, the one that you lived in or the one that you visited, which makes them a wonderful souvenir or a gift idea for everyone on your list.

Woo Hoo! Along with the new Muppets movie The Muppets: Most Wanted came a handsome new new line of coffee mugs from Disney.

On this page, celebrate your love of this very successful movie franchise that started many years ago with a humble man by the name of Jim Henson, which now continues on with the hugely successful movie company, Disney. There is no question in my mind that Kermit the Frog is Jim Henson’s most popular Muppet character though some would argue that Miss Piggy ranks right up there, too. Kermit the Frog was introduced to the world by Henson in 1955 long before The Muppet Show and Kermit eventually went on to star in many programs including but not limited to The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. More recently Kermit and the whole gang have had a comeback led by the Disney Company that has included two very successful movies, The Muppets and The Muppets: Most Wanted.This Kermit the Frog Most Wanted coffee mug is a simple, affordable way to show you love Kermit the Frog, the little green guy who brought us the Rainbow Connection and so much more. 

Miss Piggy Coffee Mug

Although I think of him loosely as Gonzo, Gonzo is actually The Great Gonzo. Gonzo appeared first in 1970 in a Christmas program called The Great Santa Claus Switch. Like Miss Piggy, he started as a minor character but has grown to be much more than that.There's something special about Gonzo. That might be because he's a puppet NOT based on a human being or an animal. If you like him because his physical attributes, which include blue fur, purple feathers, bug-eyes and a hooked nose, make him different, this is the mug to add to your collection. Fozzie Coffee Mug

Here’s the comedian of the bunch. Fozzie is a great big fuzzy teddy bear of sorts who, like Miss Piggy and Animal, also made his first appearance on The Muppet Show. 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Muhammad Ali Mug

Muhammad Ali's website opened with a wonderful photo of the late boxer who was one of the most well known sporting figures of the 20th century. 

On this page, I continue my second series, the 31 Days of Coffee Mugs, by featuring a Muhammad Ali themed coffee mug.  I know that fans are looking for mementos of the man and a mug is a useful, affordable item to add to a collection or to stand alone as a reminder of the man born Cassius Clay in 1942 who left us in June, 2016.

The black mug shown here is by Vandor and features the image of Muhammad Ali in the boxing ring, his signature on the inside and the words we associate with the man, "The Greatest" printed on the outside. Now retired, you can find this Muhammad Ali mug here on eBay.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Vintage Taylor and Ng Coffee Mugs

You Will Love These Handsome and Whimsical Taylor & Ng Coffee Mugs

Taylor and Ng is a 51-year old American company created by the Chinese American artists Spaulding Taylor and Win Ng. The firm is still in operation today and takes pride in creating useful and attractive products for everyday life. The Taylor and Ng coffee mugs certainly meet that goal although I am certain that they are popular because they feature whimsical images of animals including some slightly naughty ones.

Vintage Taylor and Ng mugs are sought after. However, the company continues to make mugs so you can also purchase a new, reproduction mug if you prefer.

The vintage MUGS are hot collectors' items right now, with individual mugs ranging in value from $10 to $180 with that last figure being the most expensive Taylor and Ng mug sold on eBay in the 90 days preceding the creation of this page in August of 2011. Because I know you are curious, I will tell you that the mug that sold for $180 is a white 1979 mug with a blue picture of Le Chat Aile - a winged cat.

Taylor & Ng Le Chat (Cat) Coffee Mugs

Cat lovers who appreciate Ng's work will love Le Chat (cat) mugs and, of course, you don't have to hold out for the rarest $180 mug. You can have a different version from a more recent year for much less than that figure. Click here to see multiple Le Chat Taylor & Ng mug options on eBay. 

Taylor & Ng L'Escargot and Cheval Mugs

There seems to be something about the vintage mugs in the blue color for the blue Taylor & Ng l'escargot and cheval mugs also command top dollar but, once again, there are other choices available including more recent reproductions, other images and other colors. Taylor & Ng Orgy / Naughty Coffee Mugs

These Taylor & Ng orgy or naughty coffee mugs generate a lot of discussion on and offline. (Taylor & Ng calls the reproduction of these naughty mugs animates, I am not sure if that is what they originally called them.)

People often have these cups in their hands without realizing exactly what those creatures are up to in the image until someone points the activity out to them. Fun and playful, these mugs fortunately leave much to the imagination.

Although popular, these naughty cups are generally more affordable with the most expensive one sold in the last 90 days being a naughty alligator coffee mug, which eBay seller CTCulture had the good fortune to sell for just over $50 once you factor in the cost of shipping.

Modern Taylor & Ng Coffee Cups

Be aware that there are two types of Taylor & Ng mugs...the vintage, collectible ones and the reproduction, brand-new ones. Some available from Amazon are misleadingly titled vintage although they are really reproductions. Be aware, too, that people are sometimes disappointed with the new mugs, especially when they were expecting the character of the older ones. In any case, you can see all of Amazon's Taylor & Ng mugs by clicking here.

I love the Taylor & Ng classy critters mugs. (As shown here in a picture via Happy Flower Head on Flickr.) They are more colorful than most of the others and may appeal to you more or less because of that fact. They are attractive and feature fun names and illustrations like Rascal Rabbit, Doggy Do Good and Kitty Katfish. You can find the classy critter collection on Amazon by clicking right here.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Prince Rogers Nelson Coffee Mug

Rest in peace, Prince. The world lost another talented musician on April 21, 2016.

Prince really does not need much in the way of introduction. We know that he was part singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, producer and even actor. He was flamboyant and eclectic. He crossed over numerous musical styles including pop, fun, rock, rhythm and blues, soul and psychedelia.

Prince Rogers Nelson, which is his full name, left behind a legacy for which he will never be forgotten.

Continuing then in my 31 Days of Coffee Mugs series, I thought it appropriate to seek out a Prince-themed coffee mug for his fans. I  found this one by Len Cockman Pottery on Etsy. It is a hand-crafted, pottery mug and fairly simple in design featuring a nice image of the musician. Find your Prince mug here on Etsy.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Sarah Spademan's Handmade Pottery Easter Peek A Boo Coffee Mugs

I have never done a post on Easter coffee mugs and I realize I am doing this one a bit late for Easter of 2016. However, these handmade pottery mugs by Sarah Spademan are just too darn cute NOT to write about...they might make it to you on time if you were to order now and besides that, there is always next year.

They're white on the exterior with a colored interior and a hidden peek a boo animal on the inside. Spademan calls them Animugs. I call them cute.

Each mug holds 12 ounces of your favorite steamy hot beverage and Spademan says they are dishwasher and microwave safe though I would be inclined to NOT put them in the dishwasher. They are so lovely that I would be scared that doing so would shorten their life. She also says they are lead free. Something else to be pleased about.

You will be glad to know that Spademan does a large variety of critter themed cups that are suitable for use all year long so you can have one without making it Easter specific if that is your preference.

Peanuts Snoopy Mugs by Department 56

The internet is buzzing with the news of the new Peanuts movie, set to arrive in movie theatres in November, 2015 so it seemed fitting to celebrate the return of the Peanuts gang with another Snoopy mug. This time, however, I have chosen a series.

I've started with this super adorable image of Snoopy called Puppy Love. I think it is my favorite but if you are a Snoopy fan you too might be hard pressed to pick just one of these coffee cups.

Other options from the series are shown below and include Flower Power Pup, Happy Hound, Day of the Dog, Houndstooth and Musical Mutt.

These mugs are from a series by Department 56, they are all super adorable and they were all available on Amazon here. However, they were produced in 2014 and appear to be out of production. You can still try the link shown above to Amazon or you can try checking on eBay by clicking right here, which is sometimes a better place to look to find items once they have retired.
