31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Starbucks Year of the Rat (2020) Mug

Starbucks Year of the Rat (2020) Mug

2020 is almost over and I know most of us will be glad to see the year gone and the new one (along with a Covid-19 vaccine) arrive. Despite the rough year or maybe in spite of it, I have seen some very interesting coffee mugs and I am once again going to bring you a collection of interesting, wonderful, beautiful, handsome, unique, new, used and even vintage coffee mugs. This is the third 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS series and so without further ado, let me share the first of my finds for 2020.

I always start with the Starbucks mug that celebrates the year. This year it is in the form of a rat because 2020 is the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac.

This rat is rather cute, I'd say but maybe that is more interesting than drinking your coffee or tea from a realistic looking rat mug! It is reasonable in size and will hold 14 ounces of your favorite hot and steamy beverage.

The picture on this page is shared courtesy of SDotty on eBay. You can find this mug in her eBay store by clicking right here and you can see all the rest of her fabulous Starbucks mugs (and she has a lot of them) by clicking right here.

So begins another month of great coffee mugs. Whether you are an intentional or an unintentional collector, I know you will enjoy seeing some of the coffee mugs that I have discovered for you.

Will you be adding a rat-themed coffee mug to your collection?

You never know what mugs I might have in store for you!

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Starbucks 2016 Year of the Monkey Mug

Starbucks 2016 Year of the Monkey Mug

Welcome to a New Year! In celebration, I am going to jump right in with some of the interesting, wonderful, beautiful, handsome, unique, new, used and even vintage coffee mugs that I pass in my travels by creating a second 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS series. Without further ado, I bring you the first of my finds for 2016…

It seems like a great starting point is with mugs celebrating the New Year, 2016, which leads us, as it did last year, to a handsome Starbucks mug. This year it is in the form of a monkey since 2016 is the Year of the Monkey in the Chinese Zodiac.

Actually, there are a number of monkey-themed Starbucks mugs listed on eBay and I am featuring but two here.

I love the design of these pieces with the handsome monkeys, their bold red and white coloration and the tail-shaped handles. These mugs are smallish by today's standards and will hold 8 ounces of your favourite hot and steamy beverage.

Find your Year of the Monkey mug on eBay by clicking right here. While you're there, you you will be able to see the assortment of Starbucks 2016 Year of the Monkey mugs.

Anyway, this is only the beginning. I know there will be many more interesting mugs to discover this year. Whether you are an intentional or an unintentional collector, I know you will enjoy seeing some of the magnificent coffee mugs that I have uncovered.

Will you be adding a monkey-themed coffee mug to your collection in 2016?

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Vintage Federal Glass Company Zodiac Mugs

The twelve signs of the zodiac are represented in these vintage Federal Glass Company mugs. Some Federal Glass pieces, like these ones, are easily identified by the marking of an F in the middle of a shield on the bottom.

I spent some time today looking for more information about the company and these cups but did not turn up much in the way of concrete facts.  Here is what I learned with the facts being compiled from a number of unofficial sources.
The Federal Glass Company was created in the early 1900s by George and Robert J. Beatty. Apparently, it originally created tumblers but soon expanded into jars and bottles and by the 1950s was making tableware from coloured pressed glass.

These zodiac-themed mugs were manufactured in the 1960s and possibly 1970s and they were made in the U.S.A.

I read that the company closed its doors in 1980 but saw this contradicted elsewhere.

Regardless, of the details, they are handsome zodiacal cups, done in black and gold, with one side presenting an image of a zodiacal sign and the other side presenting information about that specific sign.

Collectors of zodiacal mugs collect mugs that represent their specific sign. Others want a complete set representing all twelve signs of the zodiac. Whichever kind of collector you are, you will find them all available on eBay though not necessarily at the same time.  Click here to see the Federal Glass zodiac mugs in my eBay store:

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Starbucks 2015 Year of the Sheep Zodiacal Mug

Happy New Year! What's up for you in this year? Are you a goal setter? A planner? Those of you who know me well know that I am not very good at either of those activities. I am not much of a goal setter or an advance planner.  Those who have worked with me also know that I am enthusiastic and that I love to jump into new projects.

Therefore, it is only recently that I decided to share with you some of the interesting, wonderful, beautiful, unique, new, used and even vintage coffee mugs that I pass in my travels by creating a series on this blog. Without further ado, I bring you the first in a new series THE 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS. I hope that you will enjoy seeing some of the magnificent coffee mugs that I have discovered. We cannot own them all but we can certainly want them all.

First up in celebration of the new year is this handsome Starbucks mug that was released on December 26, 2014.  It is in the form of a sheep since 2015 is the Year of the Sheep in the Chinese Zodiac.

It is a handsome red, white and yellow mug that holds 14 ounces or 410 millilitres of your favourite hot and steamy beverage and measures 5.5 by 4 by 3.7 inches or 14 x 10.3 x 9.3 centimetres.

I love the colour combination and the three dimensional look of the sheep and the tail-style handle. How about you?

As a side note, it is only because of this mug that I knew what year 2015 is in the zodiac at a friend's New Year's Eve dinner party last night.  I was one upped though by a friend who knew what animal was symbolic of 2014. Oops.

You can order this Starbucks mug from the sellers on ebay by clicking right here.  While you're there, you might like to check and see if one of the Shang Hai Special Edition Year of the Sheep mugs is available. It is an especially nice version of the mug.  If you are a teddy bear fan, you might also enjoy the Year of the Sheep Bearista teddy bear, too.
