31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Vintage McCoy Smiley Face Mug

Here is the mug that everyone needs this year, the year that challenged all of us to stay safe and be happy. It is a vintage 1971 McCoy coffee mug and unlike some vintage mugs, it is readily and affordably available from many resellers on eBay.

McCoy's line of pieces included mugs, planters, banks and cookie jars. It is sometimes referred to with the word ‘Smiley’ and other times with the word ‘Happy.’ Whichever way you care to call it, it was very popular in the 1970s, which may account for why it so easily found today.

These mugs measure approximately 4 inches tall and will hold 12 ounces of your favorite hot and steamy beverage. I think that they also make wonderful display pieces whether you want to put a plant in yours or use it as a flower vase or even as a pencil holder.

The picture of the trio of smiling mugs shown below is used with permission from Corner Shop Collectors. The trio has been sold but you can find more vintage treasures in her eBay store by clicking right here.

I think that these mugs are guaranteed to make you smile and who doesn’t need every excuse they can find to smile these days!?! Discover all of the Smiley mugs that are available on eBay right now by clicking right here.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Molly Hatch Animal and Mythical Creatures Mugs

For the eleventh day of Christmas...no, it's actually the eleventh day of my 31 Days of Coffee Mugs series, I bring you another enduring favorite by Molly Hatch whose Christmas mugs I wrote about yesterday on this post. Like the ones on yesterday's post, these mugs are also fun and whimsical though these ones include animals and mythical creatures. They're done in an attractive off-white color with a blue stripe near the top and a blue pen-and-ink illustration.

Molly Hatch's artwork can be found on everything from furniture to jewelry to ceramic pieces like that scene on these handsome mugs, which feature mythical critters that include unicorns, jackalopes, narwhals, sloths as well as real creatures like grasshoppers, llamas and dogs. The dog breeds have included the ever popular Dachshund, French Bulldog and Corgi.

Originally these drawings were produced by Molly Hatch in collaboration with Anthropologie but it seems that your best source for these retired mugs now is eBay.

These mugs are warm and cozy or at least they are when you fill them with your favorite hot and steamy beverage.  See for yourself which ones are available right now on eBay by clicking right here.

Do you own any of Molly Hatch's mugs? Do you have a favorite piece?

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Molly Hatch Christmas Mugs

I originally discovered Molly Hatch's Christmas mugs through Anthropologie. I loved their simple charm and the creamy white and red colors. However, I have since found them at other locations including on eBay, which often serves as the best resource when something is out of production.

I have found ten different images including a pair of ice skates, a pair of Christmas stockings, a swag of mistletoe, an elf-like creature declaring happy holidays, a bounding reindeer, a decorated Christmas tree, a bow of holly, a gingerbread boy, a snowflake, a vintage-style Santa and a candy cane. I am not sure if that is all of them and I would hazard a guess that there are more to come.

Whether you collect a theme or you want a collection of Christmas-themed coffee mugs, I think that these present great options. They are done in a few different sizes, which makes them in my mind at least more pleasing to gather and display as a collection.

The artist, Molly Hatch, lives in Massachusetts where she began her work in a pottery studio. The images that decorate her pieces are drawn from her life as the daughter of a painter and a dairy farmer. She created her first line of products in 2010 and her whimsical approach appeals to many.

My favorite piece from her Christmas collection is the adorable elf because he is just plain cute. I also like the holly mug a lot because we have holly bushes outside of our front door. See for yourself which Molly Hatch Christmas mugs are available on eBay by clicking right here.

Which mug would you choose and would you choose just one or would you like to build a complete set?

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS (2020): Alexa, Make Me Coffee Mug

For those attached to Alexa, I am pleased to have discovered for the eighth day of my 31 day mug series this fun "Alexa Make Me Coffee" mug by Brooke and Jess Designs. It is a ceramic mug designed to look like an enameled tin camping mug with, of course, the textual reference to Amazon's Alexa.

Alexa, for those who don't know, is Amazon's virtual assistant that interacts with users by interpreting voice commands for playing music, making lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, providing the news, the weather and so on.

This Alexa mug is ceramic and it is both dishwasher and microwave safe. It measures 5 inches by 5 inches by 6 inches, holds 14 ounces of your favorite hot and steamy beverage and it is readily available from Amazon by clicking right here.

Order this mug for someone you know but be warned. Alexa still won't get your coffee.

I love how the coffee mug you use can reflect your personality, your mood, your interests!

Mary Lake Thompson Christmas Coffee Mugs Tea Towel

I know, it is not Christmastime yet but it will be before long so today I am featuring this hot chocolate themed tea towel, which features two adorable Christmas coffee mugs on a kitchen flour sack. The tea towel comes with a recipe card for peppermint cocoa, too. I only wish I knew where to buy those coffee mugs because they are too cute.  Nevertheless, I love the tea towel and I think that it would make a great addition to a hot chocolate themed Christmas gift idea! Pick up a Christmas-themed coffee mug, some hot chocolate and this tea towel. Bundled together they'd make a great thank you or hostess gift for someone who loves Christmas and hot chocolate.

This particular tea towel may no longer be available but I see a host of Mary Lake Thompson Christmas items here on Amazon. You are sure to find one you love!

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: A Garfield Mug

In 1978, Garfield was 'born,' created by Jim Davis in a comic strip and since then he has achieved star status, having appeared in comics, television shows and five movies.

He is one cool cat, known for his lazy ways, huge appetite, dieting and dislike of Mondays. He  spawned an endless source of merchandise and  has proven to be timeless. He is still very popular today so it was no surprise that, when I went looking for a Garfield coffee mug, there was no shortage of choice.

I have chosen to share a fairly recent coffee mug by Westland Giftware. It is a bright yellow, 4-inch tall "spinner" mug. That means that on one side you'll see Garfield lifting his sunglasses up and giving you a look that tells you he's up to no good and on the other side you will find an acrylic Garfield that spins and the wording, "Never Trust a Smiling Cat."  I have seen spinner mugs before but not a Garfield one.

Of course, where you find Garfield, you will find Odie not far behind. On the  blue mug, you  find the two of them side by side on the front and, on the back, a spinner with Odie and the words, "Cats Rule...Dogs Drool."

Noteworthy is the fact that the spinner on these mugs means that they are not microwaveable nor are they dishwasher proof. However, they are a great novelty gift item and a lot of fun, especially for those of us who grew up with Garfield.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Emma Bridgewater Hearts Mug for Valentine's Day

Fourth in my series of THE 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS is a mug appropriate for Valentine's Day...or any day you want to show someone that you love them.  It's a heart-themed mug from Emma Bridgewater.

Emma Bridgewater is a company in Britain that has been producing beautiful ceramics since 1985. Personally, I love all of their designs and this mug is no exception. I'd love to drink my daily cuppa' tea from it. Who wouldn't?

In case it's a heart-themed mug you are looking for but the person you want it for is NOT your sweet heart, take heart. (Pun intended.) This mug is also available with no wording. Just a dreamy white background with pretty pink and red hearts scattered about.

It is also available with the simple but very important word, Mummy on it.  That mug is perfect for any child, young or old, who wants to gift their mother with a coffee mug and show them how much they are loved. If a mom you know would love this mug, maybe it is worth ordering it now, well in advance of Mother's Day. It definitely would be a top-rated gift idea for this mommy!

You can find this and other Emma Bridgewater heart-themed mugs on eBay by clicking right here. When I checked just now on eBay, there were 36 different Emma Bridgewater items with hearts on them available from the sellers on eBay.  If you like this pattern and these colours a lot, make sure you do not miss the heart covered teapot when you look on eBay. What a Valentine's Day tea party you could have with it on your table!

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Downton Abbey Tea Cups

Third in my series of THE 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS is a set of teacups. Downton Abbey teacups, that is.  I hope you will forgive me that they are teacups. I assure you your coffee will taste perfectly fine in them.

It seemed only fitting to choose this subject matter given the fact that Season 5 of Downton Abbey arrives in North America in just two days time. I know that I am not the only one anxious for the return of our favourite characters although I will confess to already knowing how disappointed we are going to feel after each episode is over...

Back to the mugs.  These handsome mugs were produced by World Market for Downton Abbey. There are three cups in the set, which are available individually or as a group.

One mug has a quotation from the Dowager Countess of Grantham that reads, "What is a weekend?" a line that will go on to immortalize the Dowager Countess and the amazing Dame Maggie Smith. A second mug features the words Downton Abbey and shows the crown and the third has the initials DA for Downton Abbey. They are all beautiful but if I had to guess the most popular one, I'd go with the weekend reference. It would definitely be my first choice.

In case you are wondering where you can buy these mugs, you can find them, singly or as a group on eBay by clicking right here.

Keep calm and
Downton on!

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Self-Stirring Coffee Mug

Second in my new series THE 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS is a mug that you might have liked to use as you recovered from the celebrations of the end of the year 2014. It takes all the work out of assembling your cup of coffee...or at least it will stir for you and it might just make you smile.

The SELF-STIRRING COFFEE MUG is made of an attractive combination of stainless steel and plastic,

It features the words self-stirring mug and a simple little button. Press the button and your favourite steamy hot beverage will be stirred for you.

It comes with a lid so that you can move about with your mug and avoid any nasty messes.

You can order this mug and have it delivered to your front door by Amazon by clicking right here.
