MUGS ON MONDAY: Garfield and Arlene Shaped Kissing Mugs

Garfield and Arlene are Together Forever on this wonderful pair of vintage 1980 coffee mugs.

I think they that is, the coffee mugs, would make a very romantic gift for a Garfield loving lady but finding a pair still together can be a tough job.

This mug set was from eBay seller Jam-A Sweet Vintage Shop, who is no longer available on eBay. You can, however, click right here to see other Garfield and Arlene kissing mugs available on eBay.

You have to love how these Garfield mugs meant to fit together! Valentine's Day anyone? Maybe a special anniversary? What a wonderful way to say I Love You.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: A Garfield Mug

In 1978, Garfield was 'born,' created by Jim Davis in a comic strip and since then he has achieved star status, having appeared in comics, television shows and five movies.

He is one cool cat, known for his lazy ways, huge appetite, dieting and dislike of Mondays. He  spawned an endless source of merchandise and  has proven to be timeless. He is still very popular today so it was no surprise that, when I went looking for a Garfield coffee mug, there was no shortage of choice. 

I have chosen to share a fairly recent coffee mug by Westland Giftware. It is a bright yellow, 4-inch tall "spinner" mug. That means that on one side you'll see Garfield lifting his sunglasses up and giving you a look that tells you he's up to no good and on the other side you will find an acrylic Garfield that spins and the wording, "Never Trust a Smiling Cat."  I have seen spinner mugs before but not a Garfield one.

Of course, where you find Garfield, you will find Odie not far behind. On the  blue mug, you  find the two of them side by side on the front and, on the back, a spinner with Odie and the words, "Cats Rule...Dogs Drool." 

Noteworthy is the fact that the spinner on these mugs means that they are not microwaveable nor are they dishwasher proof. However, they are a great novelty gift item and a lot of fun, especially for those of us who grew up with Garfield.

The Great Glebe Garage Sale

Another year, another wonderful day at the Great Glebe Garage Sale in Ottawa. This year my husband went with me. We were there bright and early and had found a cart full of treasures for my eBay store by 10 a.m.

A cart is a must since the Glebe sale is a huge neighborhood sale at which you must park your car and walk and, if you are really going to shop and not just to soak in the atmosphere or people watch, you definitely should take something to help you carry around your treasures.

This year I was thrilled to find a Big Hug Mug. It's a mug that I have written about on this blog before and one that was, just a few months ago, selling for up to $100 on eBay. The items I found included a vintage talking Garfield that has never been removed from the box, a couple of new Lego sets and a new pair of leather Reebok hi top sneakers that, if they fit, are destined for the feet of my grown son rather than my eBay store.

We loaded our finds into the car and headed for the FarmTeam Cookhouse & Bar, who is no longer in business, where we were early enough to choose a wonderful street-side table on the patio from which to enjoy breakfast and do a bit of people watching ourselves.  The fact that the cookhouse created a special menu for the day is testament to just how crazy busy the Great Glebe Garage Sale is.
