The Andy Warhol Barbie Doll

Have you seen her? Mattel's Barbie as Andy Warhol that is? She's adorable...
Have you seen her? Mattel's Barbie as Andy Warhol that is?

I have and I think she's adorable with her cute cropped haircut and her black outfit.  I just read that she's not exactly accurate. For instance, Andy Warhol was not a painter but Mattel chose to accessorize this Barbie with the tools of a painter.

To me, it does not matter. She's cute and representative of pop art, something that always fascinates me. Not that it really matters. I am not going to own one of these dolls.

I am not a Barbie doll collector but as a girl I played with Barbie quite a bit and now I find myself occasionally fascinated by one, like this Warhol doll or the Alfred Hitchcock Birds Barbie doll.

This Andy Warhol themed Barbie doll is a limited edition Platinum Label doll. Only 999 dolls were made. That fact, of course, meant a near instant sell out.  I do not know how much this doll would have retailed for when she was sold but I have seen guesses of $100 or $150.

Barbie as Andy Warhol

Mattel's Barbie as Andy Warhol

I see that this Andy Warhol Barbie can now be found on eBay where she is listed for up to $799 and selling for anywhere from $500 to $799, well out of my range and I bet that some very lucky Barbie doll collector is going to find this doll under her Christmas tree! Updated to 2023, Barbie is selling on eBay for up to $700.

If you are curious, here is a peek at some of the current results on eBay. If you are a serious shopper, I hope this widget will help you add the Andy Warhol Barbie doll to your collection. If you prefer, you can see all of eBay's Warhol dolls by clicking here.

Happy Collecting!

U.S.A. Glitz Calendar

Love, LOVE, love the pictures on this U.S.A Glitz wall calendar.  As one who loves vintage items, I am really impressed by the images on this calendar and the pink really emphasizes the retro feel.

I love reading and learning about vintage Americana including the vintage diners, glittering casinos, classic cars, and retro amusement parks shown on this calendar.

It is flashier than I am but I do love looking at the nostalgic and the kitschy. You?

A Kitschy Calendar

A Kitschy Calendar (2015)

I know it's a bit late to be talking about calendars for 2015 but sometimes I just stumble across something I love, that somehow relates to our world that I want to share with you.

In this instance it is a kitschy calendar. I think that it is a hoot, embracing things a little off the beaten path that make us smile like a pink Elvis Presley Christmas ornament, a cat bride and groom and even a bulldog living the high life.

I see that there was a 2014 and a 2013 Kitsch calendar so we can hope that there will be another one in 2016.  I think they are perfectly suited to a home with a bit of spirit!

Now Playing...Eastern Canada Frozen Editorial Cartoon

Eastern Canada Frozen Editorial Cartoon

Love this editorial cartoon from the February 19, 2015 edition of the Ottawa Citizen featuring the artwork of Greg Perry. It depicts a man attempting to dig out the driveway and his wife attempting to walk the dog and I love how it alludes to Disney's Frozen movie with the Now Playing...Eastern Canada Frozen caption.

I figure that the image is representative of my husband and I as we head out in a few minutes for part two of the snow removal for the latest snow storm that we were gifted with this weekend in Ottawa.

We are definitely feeling FROZEN this month though we don't have a dog that has to be walked out there in the frigid Arctic air and I feel sorry for those dogs (and their owners) when they do have to go out.

How about you? Is it cold where you reside? What are you doing to stay warm?

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Marsala Red Color of the Year (2015) Coffee Mugs

Marsala Red Color of the Year Coffee Mugs. Shown here the Starbucks mug.
According to the color experts at the Pantone Color Institute, the color of the year for 2015 is marsala.

Marsala is a reddish-brown colour that Pantone calls “a smooth, rich, earthy wine tone” inspired by the a city called Marsala in Sicily, Italy.

I think that adding accents of marsala would be a great way to add a bit of this fashionable, warm colour to your home décor without adding too much of a strong colour.

Here's a peek at the sample from Pantone. Marsala is colour number 18-1438.

Pfaltzgraff's Everyday Calico Coffee MugPanatone says, "Nurturing and fulfilling, Marsala is a natural fit for the kitchen and dining room – making it ideal for tabletop, small appliances and linens throughout the home."  I like it though I realize it is not for everyone.  It is exactly the hit of red that I might choose to add if I were redecorating my family room or kitchen.

Today's post, number 27 in my 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS, is therefore dedicated to a few lovely marsala-colored coffee mugs. Because I do not actually own all of these mugs, I am relying on the color representation delivered to me online. I hope that these colors are true in real life. Please let me know if you experience anything otherwise.

At the top of this page, I've shared a pair of Starbucks' Stacking coffee mugs. Starbucks calls the color mulberry but I think that it is a fine stand in as a marsala-colored mug. It is a 2013 mug that is now discontinued. You will likely be able to find them here on eBay.

Burton & Burton's Inspirational Marsala Red Dad Coffee MugPfaltzgraff's Everyday Calico Mug, with a checkered  shown above, is of varied colors, including a reddish brown marsala. Now apparently discontinued, you can turn to eBay to find it by clicking right here.

Then there is Burton & Burton's inspirational Marsala Dad themed mug. It's a handsome choice, perfect for Father's Day and dad's birthday. You can find it on Amazon here.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Starbucks You Melt My Heart Mug

Just like there are collectors of Disney coffee mugs, there are collectors of Starbucks mugs and this 2015 You Melt My Heart certainly makes me want to start building my own collection of Starbucks mugs.

It's attractive with a simple white and red presentation and text that reads, "You Melt My Heart."

That text makes it perfect as a Valentine's Day gift or as a gift for the one you love at any time of the year.

I love the bonus rubber lid that looks like white chocolate oozing down the sides...it is a simple detail that adds so much to this mug.

Want to by your own You Melt My Heart mug? It's available now on eBay by clicking here.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Starbucks 2015 Year of the Sheep Zodiacal Mug

Happy New Year! What's up for you in this year? Are you a goal setter? A planner? Those of you who know me well know that I am not very good at either of those activities. I am not much of a goal setter or an advance planner.  Those who have worked with me also know that I am enthusiastic and that I love to jump into new projects.

Therefore, it is only recently that I decided to share with you some of the interesting, wonderful, beautiful, unique, new, used and even vintage coffee mugs that I pass in my travels by creating a series on this blog. Without further ado, I bring you the first in a new series THE 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS. I hope that you will enjoy seeing some of the magnificent coffee mugs that I have discovered. We cannot own them all but we can certainly want them all.

First up in celebration of the new year is this handsome Starbucks mug that was released on December 26, 2014.  It is in the form of a sheep since 2015 is the Year of the Sheep in the Chinese Zodiac.

It is a handsome red, white and yellow mug that holds 14 ounces or 410 millilitres of your favourite hot and steamy beverage and measures 5.5 by 4 by 3.7 inches or 14 x 10.3 x 9.3 centimetres.

I love the colour combination and the three dimensional look of the sheep and the tail-style handle. How about you?

As a side note, it is only because of this mug that I knew what year 2015 is in the zodiac at a friend's New Year's Eve dinner party last night.  I was one upped though by a friend who knew what animal was symbolic of 2014. Oops.

You can order this Starbucks mug from the sellers on ebay by clicking right here.  While you're there, you might like to check and see if one of the Shang Hai Special Edition Year of the Sheep mugs is available. It is an especially nice version of the mug.  If you are a teddy bear fan, you might also enjoy the Year of the Sheep Bearista teddy bear, too.

Travel Calendar 2015

I stumbled across this travel-themed calendar from the Rifle Paper Company today on Pinterest and decided it is going on my Christmas wish list. I have not written a lot about our travels on this blog but we do love to travel.

Included within the covers are a few places that we have visited like Paris and London but many that we have yet to visit like the Amalfi Coast, Kyoto and Havana.

To be honest, my husband's work took him to many of the other places shared in this calendar but thank goodness he is happy to revisit them with me.

I love the images, which are from hand-painted, vintage-style illustrations of some of the world's most interesting destinations and, at 11 by 17 inches, the pictures are all generously sized making this a nice piece of artwork for your wall for the year 2015.

I think this Travel the World calendar would make a great gift idea for anyone who loves to travel or even simply someone who simply dreams of travelling.  Will you be putting it on your wish list?
