31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Mugs For Old Guys

My husband has chosen to embrace the advancing years by announcing to the world that, "Old Guys Rule."  He is happy to announce it on a worn-out hat that he refuses to part with, a number of t-shirts and even on a coffee mug.

I therefore set out to see what options there are in the world of coffee mugs for men of advancing age. Mugs, that is, with an "old" theme.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find my husband's Old Guys Rule coffee mug to share on this page. The Old Guys Rule series includes mugs for all types of men from golfers to fishermen to storytellers...you can see which mugs from that series are available right now on eBay by clicking here.

I did find this handsome black and orange mug on Amazon that proclaims the owner is of Premium Quality and crafted from A Very Old Recipe.  That he is a Vintage Dude. That he is The Man, The Myth The Legend, one composed of 60 Percent Courage and 40 Percent Ability.  If that describes an old guy you know, you can find the mug on Amazon by clicking right here.

You  might want to think carefully before you gift your dad or even your grandfather with one of these mugs.  Will he love it or will he be offended? That is a very important consideration.  I know my husband would love it, especially if he needed a new coffee mug...and it would be a perfect Father's Day, birthday or Christmas present for an "old" guy, don't you think?

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Stitch Mugs From Disney's Lilo & Stitch

Disney introduced the world to the animated cartoon characters Lilo & Stitch in 2002 and since then we continue to be entranced by the popular duo.

I am not sure why the mischievous Stitch has achieved so much popularity but I do know that I am not the only one that loves this guy. In my experience, Stitch-themed merchandise on eBay is a fairly fast mover.

Take for instance the jumbo-sized plush version of Stitch shown below. Not long after I spotted him trying to drive off in my car, he found himself listed on eBay, SOLD in a flash and travelling from Canada to a new home in the United States.  I was sad to see this fun guy go; his time with us was too brief.

Since then, I have sold a few other great stitch toys on eBay but no Stitch coffee mugs though I have loved many of the ones that I have seen online.

Hands down my favorite Stich-themed mug is this Disney Store Exclusive one shown on the left. It might be a favourite because of the all-over bright blue colouring or, more likely, because it is so reminiscent of the plush Stitch toy that shared my home for a short period of time.

Unfortunately, this mug is often hard to find. As a matter of fact, I just searched on eBay and found only two available so if you really, REALLY, Really like this mug, as I do, you probably should not hesitate because he might be gone before you know it. In my opinion, the best Disney-themed mugs, as I have said before and will likely say again, come from either the Disney Store or one of the Disney Theme Parks.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Five Fabulous Turquoise Blue Mugs

I love blue. It used to be a country Wedgewood blue that I adored but in the last few years that has changed. While I still like that colour and my everyday dish set is in that colour, I have grown to appreciate a bunch of different blues so today I am showcasing five mugs in blue. That is, turquoise blue or robin's Egg blue or teal blue. However or whatever you choose to call it, I love it. How about you?

LIFE IS GOOD HOPE MUG

Shown above is a lovely rounded coffee mug from Life is Good. I have long enjoyed Life is Good coffee mugs like the Half Full one shown below.  However, I have never seen the Life is Good Cheer mug series until now. They are apparently meant to be holiday mugs though I think they would be appropriate at any time.  The Hope mug is one of three. The others are Joy and Love and in black and red are equally attractive. I think the love one would make a fine Valentine's themed mug, too. You can find all three on Amazon by clicking here. 

DISNEY STORE EXCLUSIVE EEYORE MUG

Next is a handsome Disney Store Exclusive mug featuring Winnie the Pooh's Eeyore proclaiming, as he so often does, "Oh well."

If you are not aware, official Disney mugs from both the Disney Store and the Disney theme parks are the nicest Disney-themed mugs that you can buy.  If I were choosing a Disney-themed mug, I would definitely want it to be one from one of those locations. However, you do not have to visit those destinations to own one as they are readily available through resellers on Amazon and eBay. This Eeyore mug is available from Amazon by clicking here.

FIESTA MUG BY HOMER LAUGHLIN

If you have long admired vintage Fiestaware, you can buy a turquoise blue mug from Homer Laughlin. As a matter of fact, you can build a whole coffee mug collection or even an entire dish set with reproduction Fiesta pieces. They are actually today made by the same company that has been making Fiesta dishes since 1936. Buying new is less expensive than buying vintage pieces, simplifies finding the mugs and eliminates any concerns regarding the content of vintage dishes. A definite plus in my view is that new pieces are dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. If blue is not your colour, don't worry. This mug is available in a myriad of other colours. LIFE IS GOOD HALF FULL MUG

Here is a Life is Good mug in a newer pattern but in the more typical style and shape that I am used to. Life is Good calls this style relaxed. I would agree as I can picture myself relaxing with my hands wrapped around this mug, which  is quite similar in style and weight to a vintage diner mug.  Find this half full mug on eBay by clicking right here.

ROYAL ALBERT FINE BONE CHINA FRIENDSHIP MUG 

Finally, here is a beautiful piece, much fancier than the others and in a totally different style. It is a Friendship mug from Royal Albert and I think it is stunning.  It would be a beautiful addition to any turquoise themed room and it would really make a beautiful gift for a special friend.  Find this Friendship mug on Amazon here.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: A Garfield Mug

In 1978, Garfield was 'born,' created by Jim Davis in a comic strip and since then he has achieved star status, having appeared in comics, television shows and five movies.

He is one cool cat, known for his lazy ways, huge appetite, dieting and dislike of Mondays. He  spawned an endless source of merchandise and  has proven to be timeless. He is still very popular today so it was no surprise that, when I went looking for a Garfield coffee mug, there was no shortage of choice. 

I have chosen to share a fairly recent coffee mug by Westland Giftware. It is a bright yellow, 4-inch tall "spinner" mug. That means that on one side you'll see Garfield lifting his sunglasses up and giving you a look that tells you he's up to no good and on the other side you will find an acrylic Garfield that spins and the wording, "Never Trust a Smiling Cat."  I have seen spinner mugs before but not a Garfield one.

Of course, where you find Garfield, you will find Odie not far behind. On the  blue mug, you  find the two of them side by side on the front and, on the back, a spinner with Odie and the words, "Cats Rule...Dogs Drool." 

Noteworthy is the fact that the spinner on these mugs means that they are not microwaveable nor are they dishwasher proof. However, they are a great novelty gift item and a lot of fun, especially for those of us who grew up with Garfield.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: A Squirrel Mug

We regularly watch the antics of our neighbourhood squirrels out our kitchen bay window. They frequently make us smile although sometimes they make us frown. This week they have not found a way on to the bird feeder yet so we're still smiling at them.

The episode of the never-ending show outside our window this week involved a black squirrel carrying a bagel all over our yard. We were not sure what he was up to nor where he found the bagel so we presumed that there must be a squirrel coffee shop in the neighbourhood that we do not know about but that the squirrel does. Maybe it came from the same 'shop' from which he was given a muffin a few days ago.

Anyway, after much fussing, Mr. Squirrel finally stopped running about the yard and carefully placed the bagel in a crook of our smaller tree and left.  I was amazed that he would abandon such an obvious treasure. My husband figures that he could only eat so much at a time and that he had to put it down somewhere.  I thought it was more likely that he had forgotten the peanut butter and had gone back to the squirrel coffee shop to retrieve some...

Remarkably, the bagel sat there untouched by other squirrels and birds for hours.  Someone eventually removed it because when I looked again it was gone.  Hopefully, Mr. Squirrel returned with his peanut butter and finished it off.

Anyway, it was because of that squirrel that I went in search of a squirrel themed mug for this post, the seventh in my series, the 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS.  I found a couple of mugs that I liked, including this lovely, realistic squirrel mug by Emma Bridgewater but I settled on the mug shown on this page because of the humorous slogan and handsome design.

The mug shown here is by Canadian artist Mia Lane and Wild Wings reads, "This place is a nut house."  Even if that is only sometimes the case in your home, you are bound to like this mug if you enjoy the antics of the squirrels in your yard.  I love the image, the quotation and the sculpted handle.
