LEGO Ideas Typewriter Set 21327

Welcome to

Every now and then there is a new LEGO set or even two that makes me smile. As someone who learned keyboarding in the early 1980s, I well remember typewriters though in the 1980s we had electric typewriters and I never actually had to type a letter on a manual one.

This typewriter, of course, is completely old school in style. It is even more vintage than the 1980s machines that I used because it is completely manual and features a moveable carriage and keys (though it does not actually type), holds a sheet of real paper and includes Lego's first fabric piece, an ink ribbon.

Meet LEGO's Typewriter, set number 21327. It is a 2,079 piece set that is recommended for individuals 18 and up.  That seems appropriate since I think it is adults who are going to think this item is interesting.  Crafted after real 1950 typewriters in style and color, it will appeal to those who are like vintage design. It would definitely be a conversation piece for anyone like me who remembers learning to type on a typewriter, for anyone who is a writer and for anyone who loves mid-century modern style. It would be perfectly at home in your home or work office, wherever it is that you work from these days.

To learn a lot more about the creation of this set, watch this five-minute video, which details how this set was created from a fan's winning design.

The set is part of LEGO's Adults Welcome series, which creates kits that are of interest to adults and offers a nod to the fact that while Lego sets purchased online are purchased by adults they are not all given to children.

Available July 1, 2021, from Lego by clicking right here or you can join LEGO's VIP program to buy it today. The VIP program is free and comes with advance notice of new sets, members discounts and points for all of your LEGO purchases made through the LEGO website or their retail stores.

Does this set make you feel nostalgic?

Lego DUPLO Garbage Truck Set 10519

Lego DUPLO Garbage Truck Set 10519

For Toy Tuesday, here’s the retired 2014 Lego DUPLO Garbage Truck set for your child to use to haul the recycling away. It includes the truck with a simple tipping function, the garbage man mini-figure and even a dog that loves to chase the garbage truck down the street. Yes, your child can load up the recycling bin and then empty it into the truck.

What is it about little boys and garbage trucks? Some are fascinated by the truck and its processes and watch every week for the arrival of the truck. My boys did and they loved Lego's DUPLO, too, so they would have loved this set.

Duplo sets are meant for younger children, generally aged 2 to 5. This one is set number 10519 and was released in 2014. Unfortunately, it appears to have had a limited run, which makes it somewhat hard to find and quite expensive in the resale market. Be aware if you are buying it, that it contains just 16 pieces though what fun those pieces are! They would be a great add on to an existing DUPLO collection.

Haunt Your House with Lego's Haunted House Set 10228

The Lego Monster Fighters Haunted House (10228)

Dare to enter this haunted mansion at your own risk...

Halloween is hugely popular in my house as it is throughout North America. Who would not love to decorate with this Lego version of a haunted house? Personally, I love the idea. I love the fact that this Lego set is a seasonal decoration that can be built and rebuilt by Lego enthusiasts year after year after year.

Your first impression of this haunted house, even before it is out of the box, will be WOW. It is a very impressive piece, a large set in a big box. The house is an old mansion that is falling apart at the seams.

To enter this haunted house you must first muster the courage to pass through an old 'wrought iron' gate, LOL.

Once you have managed to summon the nerve to cross the rickety step and open that gate and then throw wide the front door you will find a home, well a home for ghosts and vampires and such, with three floors and a roof to explore. The house opens wide in the same manner as a dollhouse so that you can easily access the details inside.

In the kitchen, you can become the zombie chef and whip up a meal on the antique stove. Then you can write us a letter in the Vampyre’s office but beware there are no computers in this office and you will have to post your letter via good old-fashioned snail mail. Perhaps you will take a moment to sit in front of the fireplace and appreciate the home's ghoulish décor before exploring some more. You can access the second floor by pulling a lever in the chimney to release the stairs and continue your adventure in this detailed Lego set.

Lego's Haunted House, set 10228, is a fairly big set, which I have read is or at least was at time of release, Lego's 15th largest set. It contains 2064 pieces and is recommended for individuals aged 14 and up. Of course, it is a great set even for adult Lego builders or for families with older children to build together.

If you are a fan of Lego and Halloween, you will want to consider adding this magnificent Lego set to your collection. Alternatively, if you know someone who is a big fan of Lego and Halloween, this haunted house is most definitely a top-rated gift idea.

The Minifigures

What is not to love the Lego minifigures that are Included in this set? Within that box, you will find six of them: two glow-in-the-dark ghosts, a vampire and his bride, a zombie chef and a butler.

Lego Haunted Mansion Set

Current Status

Lego has retired this set. Unfortunately for those that want one, this means the price has gone up significantly. I think it is fairly safe to say that given the popularity of both Lego and Halloween, in North America this is one of the most sought after sets.

A whopping 100 percent of those who reviewed this set for Lego recommend it saying things like "pure Lego fun" and "genius." Many even consider it to be one of the BEST Lego sets ever produced, which for Lego fans is a pretty strong recommendation, don't you think?

By way of warning, as I write this, this set is currently listed for $445 on Amazon. That price is likely to fluctuate on a daily basis and to spike in the months leading up to Halloween. You can check it out for yourself on Amazon by clicking right here.

Price comparison on eBay may or may not save you a few details. As I write this in July, 2017, the price for a new sealed box set starts at $349 plus shipping.  You can see what is available on eBay today by clicking here.

More Monster Fighter Sets

Lego created a number of sets in the Monster Fighter series. They have included the following sets, none of which are being produced by Lego anymore but most of which are available on Amazon by clicking right here.

The Swamp Creature, Set 9461 (70 pieces)
The Mummy, Set 9462 (90 pieces)
The Werewolf, Set 9463 (243 pieces)
The Vampyre Hearse, Set 9464 (314 pieces)
The Crazy Scientist & His Monster, Set 9466 (430 pieces)
The Ghost Train, Set 9467 (741 pieces)
Vampyre Castle, Set 9468 (949 pieces) Set 9468

In Conclusion

I think that this set is a pretty amazing Lego creation. How about you? Are you interested in owning it? Do you dare to enter Lego's haunted mansion?

The Great Glebe Garage Sale

The Great Glebe Garage Sale

Another year, another wonderful day at the Great Glebe Garage Sale in Ottawa. This year my husband went with me. We were there bright and early and had found a cart full of treasures for my eBay store by 10 a.m.

The Big Hug Mug A cart is a must since the Glebe sale is a huge neighborhood sale at which you must park your car and walk and, if you are really going to shop and not just to soak in the atmosphere or people watch, you definitely should take something to help you carry around your treasures.

This year I was thrilled to find a Big Hug Mug. It's a mug that I have written about on this blog before and one that was, just a few months ago, selling for up to $100 on eBay. However, due to the natural laws of supply and demand, this mug is now more readily available on eBay and therefore, much less expensive.  If you are curious about what all the fuss is about this particular coffee mug, you can read my original post about the Big Hug Mug here or if you are looking to buy one, you can check this one out on eBay by clicking here.

The items I found included a vintage talking Garfield that has never been removed from the box, a couple of new Lego sets and a new pair of leather Reebok hi top sneakers that, if they fit, are destined for the feet of my grown son rather than my eBay store.

We loaded our finds into the car and headed for the FarmTeam Cookhouse & Bar, who is no longer in business, where we were early enough to choose a wonderful street-side table on the patio from which to enjoy breakfast and do a bit of people watching ourselves.  The fact that the cookhouse created a special menu for the day is testament to just how crazy busy the Great Glebe Garage Sale is.

What a wonderful day out! I hope you did something fun this weekend, too!
