Lego DUPLO Garbage Truck Set 10519

For Toy Tuesday, here’s the retired 2014 Lego DUPLO Garbage Truck set for your child to use to haul the recycling away. It includes the truck with a simple tipping function, the garbage man mini-figure and even a dog that loves to chase the garbage truck down the street. Yes, your child can load up the recycling bin and then empty it into the truck. 

What is it about little boys and garbage trucks? Some are fascinated by the truck and its processes and watch every week for the arrival of the truck. My boys did and they loved Lego's DUPLO, too, so they would have loved this set.

Duplo sets are meant for younger children, generally aged 2 to 5. This one is set number 10519 and was released in 2014. Unfortunately, it appears to have had a limited run, which makes it somewhat hard to find and quite expensive in the resale market. Be aware if you are buying it, that it contains just 16 pieces though what fun those pieces are! They would be a great add on to an existing DUPLO collection.

Ravensburger Elephant Ride Board Game (1999)

We enjoyed Ravensburger games when my boys were children. Ravensburger's Elephant Ride was available but for whatever reason we never encountered it. Made in 1999, it is a German game that is intended for two to four players who are aged three to eight years old.

As the tagline says,

“Monkey see, monkey do.
If you saw an elephant
You'd climb on him too!”

It is a simple game for young children. The box sums up the game in a very simple manner saying,

“The elephant is the most wonderful animal to ride in the jungle. He is so tall you can see forever when you stand on his back. He walks so gently and his back is so wide, you will never fall off. He makes any monkey feels like the king of the Jungle. But the elephant loves the attention too, so he lets as many monkeys as possible ride on him. He laughs and laughs as the monkeys climb up and over eachUncover some of the details about the Terry Fox 40th Anniversary Orion Running Shoes by Adidas. other, creating incredibly funny stacks of monkeys; there arms and legs and tails everywhere. The image of the elephant on the box shown below also does a good job of demonstrating what this game looks like when being played.

In the course of writing this page, I discovered that this game is a fairly limited game meaning that there are not tons of them available on the resale market. There are, however, a few copies available on eBay by clicking right here.

You might know Sandra Boynton and not even be aware that you know her.  I first encountered her many years ago when my children were preschoolers through a 1993 children’s board book called Barnyard Dance.

Sandra Boynton is an award-winning children's author and illustrator who has created a world of funny animal characters that we know and love. They appear not only in her numerous children's books but also on greeting cards, coffee mugs, bedding and so much more.

However, a quick look at the eBay sales statistics shows that the most expensive Sandra Boynton mug sold in the last year sold for just under $40, which means they should not be priced out of reach of the average consumer.  The mugs that fetched the highest selling prices included the Juan in a Million, Wee Fish Ewe A Mare E-Grets Moose and the Rudolph No Business Like Snow Business mugs.

You Never Know What I Might Have in Store for You!

The Wiggles Speak & Sing Dolls

The Wiggles have been called “the world's biggest preschool band” and “a child’s first rock band” and have achieved success around the world. At one point in time, The Wiggles were so popular that you could visit the Toys ‘R’ Us department store in Times Square and find a section devoted entirely to The Wiggles.

Are you familiar with The Wiggles?

They are a group of children’s entertainers from Sydney, Australia that was formed in 1991. They ranked at the top of Australian Business Review Weekly’s list of entertainers for four years and earned numerous awards including 17 gold awards for sales of DVDS and CDs.

The Wiggles group has evolved since it was created and now includes mostly different performers but continues to be as popular as ever with children. That huge popularity has, of course, inspired much merchandise that includes but is not limited to CDs, DVDs and toys, some of which are widely available and others, like these The Wiggles Speak & Sing Cowboy Dolls, that are somewhat hard-to-find.

There were five cowboy-themed talking and singing The Wiggles dolls produced by Spin Master and Hit Entertainment in 2003. The characters produced include Gregg, Anthony, Jeff, Murray and Captain Feathersword. Each doll measures approximately 15 inches (38 cms) in height and is dressed in a western outfit that includes a rubber hat. Each doll introduces himself or sings a song when you push a button in his chest area.

We love the fact that these dolls, which were aimed at the preschool market, were made safe for children as young as two years old and that a bit of poking around online uncovered good reviews. These reviews included comments like, “This item is a very good item for any child 2 or above that loves the wiggles and the music they play” and “…my husband calls these Wiggles dolls superheroes. They are very durable and when they get dirty you can take off their clothes and wash them or wipe them with a washcloth.” I’d be careful, however, when cleaning the clothing of one of these rare toys and do so gently in a basin of warm soapy water.
