Springbok Will You Be Mine Sweethearts Vintage Jigsaw Puzzle

Here's a fun jigsaw puzzle for Valentine's Day or any day. It's the 1997 Springbok puzzle titled "Will you Be Mine." It is puzzle number VBO2066. It has 500 pieces and the finished puzzle will measure 18 by 23 1/5 inches. Definitely a fun one to work with your sweetheart.

It is retired now so the best place to find your Springbok Will You Be Mine jigsaw puzzle is here on eBay. Note that the fact that it is retired means you may or may not find one available when you look. However, there do seem to be a number of  copies of the Chocolate Sweethearts puzzle available, which would be a great alternative to this one.

The Titanic Sinks Jigsaw Puzzle

The history of the RMS Titanic is one that most of us are familiar with and is one that the world will never forget. On April 15, 1912, the cruise ship or passenger liner as they were called then, The Titanic, sunk in the North Atlantic after a fateful collision with an iceberg. 

More than 1,500 people perished that night and, for more than 100 years, scientists and historians have attempted to determine what sent the Titanic to her watery grave. They have told her story through an endless succession of books, movies and documentary films. They have told of the actual ship and of both those on board who lost their lives and those on board who survived.

For professional and amateur Titanic enthusiasts, there is no end to the quest for information. They eagerly pick up these new books and films, they recreate her food and fashion and some of them even retrace the Titanic's path on the Atlantic wanting to learn more about a time and an event happened more than a century ago.

Personally, I find working a jigsaw puzzle of the Titanic interesting and I have worked a few. Of course, I love doing jigsaw puzzles in general but a Titanic one is different somehow. It is a little bit more somber, giving pause to think a bit more about the events that unfolded on that tragic day.

The jigsaw puzzle shown here is called Titanic Sinks and was produced by FX Schmid. It is a 500-piece puzzle depicting the front page of the New York Times as it appeared the morning after the disaster on April 16, 1912. The newspapers of the time scrambled to find news of the event to report. It is said that some even made up news in order to have something to print in their papers and that at least one even reported that the Titanic was afloat and struggling into port and that all aboard were rescued.

Unfortunately, we all know that was not true and the headline from the New York Times newspaper page as shown on this Titanic jigsaw puzzle screams news that is at least somewhat more accurate, "Titanic Sinks Four Hours After Hitting Iceberg; 866 Rescued by Carpathia, Probably 1250 Perish; Ismay Safe, Mrs. Astor Maybe; Noted Names Missing."

Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles

The Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Company was created in 1991. It produces interesting wooden puzzles in a factory that is located in England. Their puzzles can be found in specialty shops around the world and some are even custom made. 

Wentworth's website says that they use “state-of-the-art, computer-controlled lasers” to create their puzzles and that they follow “the Victorian puzzle-making tradition by using whimsies." That is, pieces that are related to the puzzle. For instance, a piece from a Harry Potter puzzle might be shaped like a sorting hat.

With puzzles ranging from 25 to 1,500 pieces in size, there are puzzles available for experienced and inexperienced jigsaw puzzlers. The fact that they are made out of wood means that they can be made and remade without deteriorating the way cardboard puzzle pieces do. The puzzles are beautiful, making extra nice gifts that your recipient will have forever.

EARNSCLIFFE PUZZLE

The puzzle shown here is from Wentworth's Fine Art Collection and shares the architecture of Earnscliffe, the iconic Ottawa, Ontario home of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. The box says that this puzzle is "cut in the classic Victorian style, in which every piece is a different shape and some pieces are cut in shapes that may reflect the image. Pieces are cut in patterns that challenge, intrigue, frustrate and confuse. Corners are frequently bisected and straight pieces can be in the middle of the puzzle." 

It features a fall-themed image of the building that now and since 1930 has served as the Residence of the British High Commissioner to Canada. It has 250 pieces and will measure 10 inches by 14 inches when completed. It would be perfect for fans of Canadian history and architecture.

Easter Bunny in Training SunsOut Jigsaw Puzzle (2021)

Here I am again, having found another fun Easter-themed jigsaw puzzle. This year Sunsout's Easter image is called 'Easter Bunny in Training' and features an Easter basket and an adorable dog and sweet pair of kittens dressed for Easter, hence the reference to being in training.

It is a 300-piece Easter puzzle, which unfortunately has been discontinued and it is not available anymore on Amazon.  However, you may this current collection of SunsOut jigsaw puzzles on Amazon for Easter right now.

Springbok Book Shop Jigsaw Puzzle (2016)

For National Book Lovers' Day, which is celebrated every year on August 9, I am pleased to bring you this fantastical book-themed jigsaw puzzle from Springbok. Called simply Book Shop, it features a gloriously fun book shop packed floor to ceiling with vintage and antique books. 

 

The puzzle has 500 pieces and the finished product will measure 20 inches by 20 inches. You will love the unique pieces. As is the case with many Springbok puzzles, each piece is unique and is never repeated. The pieces are quality made and are constructed of thick cut 75 point board, which is thicker than the average puzzle. 

 

About this puzzle, Springbok says, "Crack open your favorite novel and enjoy yourself with Springbok's Book Shop jigsaw puzzle. Full of gorgeously colored books and the beautiful imagery of an overflowing library, this puzzle will make you want to curl up with a good book and never leave!" I would add that it also promises the fun of an afternoon of jigsaw puzzling with a good cup of tea at hand!

 

I love the curling stack of books that at first seemed like it might be a stairwell leading to still more books and I smiled at the fabulous old sign that reads, "The Buck A Book Room Through This Door." Who else would like to enter that bargain book filled room? Or climb a magical bookcase stairwell? Or maybe just work this puzzle?

Heinz Ketchup Red Jigsaw Puzzle

Past tense. Unfortunately, I have to say that Heinz GAVE away 57 Ketchup Red jigsaw puzzles. Yes, the 570-piece puzzle was called Ketchup Red and yes, it was indeed done in only one very recognizable color. The contest closed on May 8, 2020, but it turns out that you can buy the puzzle directly from Heinz. Read through to the end for details on where to find the puzzle.

Jigsaw puzzles have seen a huge resurgence in popularity because of the pandemic and because we are all trying to stay home and stay safe. People are looking for different activities and have once again embraced jigsaw puzzles and board games. Puzzles offer another form of entertainment beyond what is available electronically and there have even been reports of jigsaw puzzle shortages. Certainly there has been an uptick in the volume of puzzles selling on eBay.

A comment from Heinz Kraft Canada quoted on My Modern Met explains this particular puzzle. “Heinz is known for its iconic slow-pouring ketchup. In a period when everyone had a little more time on their hands and puzzle popularity has skyrocketed, we wanted to help pass the time by connecting the two. This puzzle is worth the patience—only this time, you can’t hold it at the perfect angle to solve it.”

Heinz claims that this puzzle, Ketchup Red, just might be ‘the slowest puzzle on earth.’ That tagline stems from previous Heinz advertising slogans and references to their ketchup being slow. Some might remember the 1970s when Heinz’s advertising claimed it was the “Slowest Ketchup in the West" and when Carly Simon and ketchup kept us waiting with the song, "Anticipation.” Finally, in the 1980s, Heinz reminded us that “The best things come to those who wait.”

I missed the opportunity to enter though the all-red color scheme might just have been too challenging for me.  It is great that Heinz has made it possible for jigsaw puzzlers who love Heinz Ketchup as much as they do a tough puzzle to buy it, especially in this time of quarantine when they are looking for an extra challenge.

Vintage Springbok Country Road Jigsaw Puzzle

PUZZLE FOR NATIONAL ARBOR DAY

I went looking for a jigsaw puzzle to celebrate National Arbor Day, which is celebrated on the last Friday in April. The day was created to encourage us to celebrate and to plant trees. They are so important to the earth protecting the topsoil from being eroded away, putting oxygen into the air that we breath and providing homes for wildlife.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

This puzzle is a vintage 1975 Springbok puzzle called Country Road featuring, as it does, a lovely romantic wooded road in the countryside. When finished the puzzle will be square and measure 20 1/4 inches by 20 1/4 inches. It is is Springbok's puzzle number PZL2061.

OLD IRISH EXPRESSION

The text on the back is from a beautiful Old Irish proverb that incidentally does not appear on the picture on the puzzle. It reads: 

May the road rise up to meet you. 
May the wind be always at your back. 
May the sun shine warm upon your face; 
the rains fall soft upon your fields 
and until we meet again, 
may God hold you 
in the palm of His hand.

WHERE TO BUY THIS PUZZLE

Because it is a vintage puzzle, you will have to search eBay to find it. You can do so by clicking right here. I recommend buying a new puzzle, if possible. If you have to buy a used puzzle because that is all that is available or because that is all that you can afford and if it matters to you, make sure that you find out if the seller guarantees the puzzle to be complete. Counting the pieces is not a good way to know if a puzzle is complete since the number of puzzle pieces as given on the outside of the puzzle box does not necessarily represent the exact number of pieces within the box. Working a puzzle is the only way to know it is complete. Of course, you may be content to work a puzzle that is missing a piece or two and, as long as you know that is a possibility, that is okay, too.

Easter Bunny Now That's Art Jigsaw Puzzle (2020)

I love a good, Easter-themed jigsaw puzzle. This SunsOut jigsaw puzzle called, "Now That's Art" is a larger puzzle, having 1000 pieces and features a fun spring-themed image of a realistic rabbit posing as an artist and painting Easter eggs.

Unfortunately, this puzzle, is out of production. You can still look for it here on Amazon. However, you will have better lucky finding a jigsaw puzzle that was produced for this year by looking at all of SunsOut's Easter puzzles here on Amazon.

Springbok Nutcracker Jigsaw Puzzles

Over the years, Springbok has produced a number of different jigsaw puzzles with nutcrackers on them. I love them all.

I have gathered a few of them together here on the page but I am unsure if my collection is complete.

Shown at the top is the round puzzle, one that is simply titled Nutcracker. It has 500 pieces. The image credit for the picture of this puzzle goes to eBay store owner, bixbybasil. Unfortunately, this puzzle is out of production.

The second puzzle is a fairly recent one and is currently in production. It is called Nutcracker Collection and has 1,000 pieces. You can find it new, used and vintage on eBay by clicking here.

The third puzzle is the Nutcracker Workshop puzzle. It has 400 pieces and is a family puzzle meaning that it has big pieces for children and little pieces for the young at heart. This puzzle is and all of those that follow are also out of production. It can be found on eBay by clicking right here.

The fourth puzzle is the Nutcracker Brigade puzzle, which is a 500 piece puzzle that includes a wooden ornament. You can find it on eBay by clicking here.

A Charlie Brown Christmas Collector's Edition Jigsaw Puzzle

A Charlie Brown Christmas is a classic television program that is watched by you and by me year after year after year.

The eternally popular story is presented here as a 550 piece jigsaw puzzle in an attractive collector's tin.

The puzzle features a familiar scene from the Charlie Brown television special, in which Linus wraps his beloved blue blanket around Charlie brown's pathetic Christmas tree.

Unfortunately, this jigsaw puzzle is out of print, which means if you want to own it it is probably going to cost you more than the original selling price.

Not all of the puzzles will be new, so if that is important to you, be sure to shop carefully. If you are buying a used puzzle, make sure the seller guarantees the puzzle to be complete. A simple counting of the pieces is not enough because puzzle manufacturers do not always use the exact number of pieces that a puzzle is sold as. For instance, a 550-piece puzzle may actually have 552 or 458 pieces.

Chocolate Easter Bunny True Love Jigsaw Puzzle (2014) by SunsOut

I cannot tell you how many times I have looked for an Easter-themed jigsaw puzzle and found the selection, well, a wee bit wanting. I was pleasantly surprised then when I discovered this one by SunsOut called, "True Love."  It has 550 pieces and features a sweet image of a real rabbit and a chocolate rabbit, perfect for Easter.

If you're after an Easter themed puzzle, you will no longer find this one on Amazon. I believe it must be retired.  However, SunsOut has a wide selection of Easter puzzles available on Amazon here.

Halloween Snow Globe Jigsaw Puzzle

I know, I know all you Halloween fans and snow globe collectors are going to fall for this snow globe-shaped, Halloween-themed jigsaw puzzle. It features many of your favorite holiday items packed in and around a snow globe without, of course, the fragile nature of an actual snow globe.
