New York New York Wrebbit 3D Jigsaw Puzzle

Discover the super challenging, New York City Wrebbit 3D jigsaw puzzle.

Here's a super-challenging, three-dimensional Wrebbit jigsaw puzzle that has a whopping 3,141 pieces. It is a popular puzzle that is retired and somewhat hard to find. Marked item number P3D-SP2, it depicts New York city as we remember it before 911 and is considered one of the most challenging 3D puzzles ever made. This customer review sums it up nicely:

"I got this puzzle for my boyfriend last Christmas and when we got back from college we started it. It took us one month in total to finish the puzzle. It is VERY CHALLENGING. We worked every night from 6pm-1am most nights. After hours of looking at teeny tiny windows and searching for that ONE PIECE amongst 3,000+, one might lost one's mind and get frustrated very quickly, BUT DO NOT GIVE UP. This puzzle is a amazing because when it's done, it's gorgeous and it paying a fitting tribute to the twin towers and NYC!" - K. Barone

Discover Walt Disney's Movie Poster Jigsaw Puzzles by Golden

In the 1990s, Walt Disney released a series of movie poster-themed jigsaw puzzles with the company Golden. Yes, that’s the same company that produced the Little Golden Books of days gone by.

Each of these puzzles features an iconic animated Disney movie’s poster and, because each one is comprised of 300 big puzzle pieces, it comes together to make a fairly large puzzle of 2 by 3 feet.

These puzzles are a great addition to any Disney fan’s collection, whether you collect only items related to one movie or you collect items related to any Disney movie. The choice is yours. You can choose to display them once they are built or to build them time and time again.

While intended for older children, they are also a fun puzzles to work as an adult. Honestly, when I am looking for an easier puzzle, I love working these puzzles.

Walt Disney's Beauty and the Beast Movie Poster Jigsaw Puzzle by Golden.

My latest puzzle was the Beauty and the Beast one. It was a fun journey into the magic and romance of this classic story. I loved snapping into place all of the pieces with their iconic characters though to my chagrin, my puzzle was missing a piece!

Please note that this list may not be complete. If you know of other puzzles in this series, be sure to let me know. Also, some of these puzzles are rarer than others. In particular, it might be harder to locate Cinderella, Rescuers Down Under and Rocketeer. In any case, you can look on eBay to see which of these Walt Disney Golden puzzles are available now by clicking right here.

Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles

Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles

The Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Company was created in 1991. It produces interesting wooden puzzles in a factory that is located in England. Their puzzles can be found in specialty shops around the world and some are even custom made.

Wentworth's website says that they use “state-of-the-art, computer-controlled lasers” to create their puzzles and that they follow “the Victorian puzzle-making tradition by using whimsies." That is, pieces that are related to the puzzle. For instance, a piece from a Harry Potter puzzle might be shaped like a sorting hat.

With puzzles ranging from 25 to 1,500 pieces in size, there are puzzles available for experienced and inexperienced jigsaw puzzlers. The fact that they are made out of wood means that they can be made and remade without deteriorating the way cardboard puzzle pieces do. The puzzles are beautiful, making extra nice gifts that your recipient will have forever.

EARNSCLIFFE PUZZLE

The puzzle shown here is from Wentworth's Fine Art Collection and shares the architecture of Earnscliffe, the iconic Ottawa, Ontario home of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. The box says that this puzzle is "cut in the classic Victorian style, in which every piece is a different shape and some pieces are cut in shapes that may reflect the image. Pieces are cut in patterns that challenge, intrigue, frustrate and confuse. Corners are frequently bisected and straight pieces can be in the middle of the puzzle.

It features a fall-themed image of the building that now and since 1930 has served as the Residence of the British High Commissioner to Canada. It has 250 pieces and will measure 10 inches by 14 inches when completed. It would be perfect for fans of Canadian history and architecture.

Find Wentworth's Earnscliffe puzzle here in my eBay store. Currently, it is the only one available on eBay and, once it is sold, it may be difficult to find another.

George Bush Dog Puzzles

Presidential Pets features former President George Bush's dogs on a jigsaw puzzle.

When President George Bush was to celebrate his 60th birthday in 2006, First Lady Laura Bush wanted to present him with a special present and she came up with a very special one indeed.

On this page, you will find more information about the gift that Laura Bush had made for the President, a jigsaw puzzle called Presidential Pets. A very fitting gift for a family that loved working jigsaw puzzles.

Since George Bush's favorite jigsaw puzzles featured artwork by Howard Robinson, the First Lady commissioned a picture of the White House and the presidential dogs, Scottish Terriers, named Miss Beazley and Barney.

Mr. Robinson is a British artist whose artwork has been featured on many products including china, record covers, posters and puzzles. His jigsaw puzzle, At the Waterhole, which features wild animals, was shortlisted in 2007 for the Ravensburger puzzle of the year.

Mr. Robinson was, needless to say, thrilled to have the opportunity to paint the Presidential dogs.  He is quoted as having said, "never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that the President of the United States of America would be sitting in Camp David doing one of my puzzles."

The puzzle is a 550-piece puzzle with a finished size of 18 inches by 24 inches.

There is another famous puzzle linked to the Bush family. It features the face of the Bush's dog named Barney. That puzzle is a wooden one, crafted from hand-cut mahogany created by a company called ELMS Puzzle that crafts puzzles freehand without the aid of computers. This puzzle was a gift to the President from the staff at the White House.

Jigsaw Puzzles Are Back In Style

Jigsaw Puzzles are back in style though the World's Most Difficult Mickey Mouse puzzle is not for everyone!

As you may or may not have suspected, jigsaw puzzles were out of style for a while. However, it seems their popularity is growing. We regularly work one, leaving one out on the coffee table all year long. Noticeably, not as many pieces are put in place in the summer but during the long, cold winter nights many are.

We now have more and better methods of producing puzzles and this has led to more creative puzzles. Not to say that there are not old puzzles that were well constructed. When you pick up a vintage Springbok puzzle that is fully assembled and walk around the house with it holding it only by the corners, you know that it was a well made puzzle. However, there is certainly a much wider variety of puzzle styles, choices and images available now for all age groups and at numerous price points.

I am sure that popularity is in large part because puzzles are a wonderful break from the constant presence of technology in our lives.  More importantly, however is that puzzles are just plain fun to do and when you finish one, you have a nice sense of accomplishment. Note that I did not say anything about them being good for us...and I do believe they are good for our brains, young and old.

I have chosen to illustrate this page with one of the World's Most Difficult Jigsaw Puzzle. This one features Disney's Mickey Mouse on a double-sided puzzle that has the same artwork on both sides! Yikes is what I say but if you are an accomplished puzzle worker who is a Disney fan, you will probably like the challenge. You can find this World's Most Difficult Mickey Mouse puzzle here on eBay by clicking right here.

Is there a JIGSAW PUZZLE in your life?
