Vintage Springbok Country Road Jigsaw Puzzle

Vintage Springbok Country Road Jigsaw Puzzle

PUZZLE FOR NATIONAL ARBOR DAY

I went looking for a jigsaw puzzle to celebrate National Arbor Day, which is celebrated on the last Friday in April. The day was created to encourage us to celebrate and to plant trees. They are so important to the earth protecting the topsoil from being eroded away, putting oxygen into the air that we breath and providing homes for wildlife.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

This puzzle is a vintage 1975 Springbok puzzle called Country Road featuring, as it does, a lovely romantic wooded road in the countryside. When finished the puzzle will be square and measure 20 1/4 inches by 20 1/4 inches. It is is Springbok's puzzle number PZL2061.

OLD IRISH EXPRESSION

The text on the back is from a beautiful Old Irish proverb that incidentally does not appear on the picture on the puzzle. It reads:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you
in the palm of His hand.

WHERE TO BUY THIS PUZZLE

Because it is a vintage puzzle, you will have to search eBay to find it. You can do so by clicking right here. I recommend buying a new puzzle, if possible. If you have to buy a used puzzle because that is all that is available or because that is all that you can afford and if it matters to you, make sure that you find out if the seller guarantees the puzzle to be complete. Counting the pieces is not a good way to know if a puzzle is complete since the number of puzzle pieces as given on the outside of the puzzle box does not necessarily represent the exact number of pieces within the box. Working a puzzle is the only way to know it is complete. Of course, you may be content to work a puzzle that is missing a piece or two and, as long as you know that is a possibility, that is okay, too.

31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS: Unemployed Philosopher's Guild Classic Movie Mug

With the announcement yesterday of the 2015 Academy Award nominations, I thought an Academy Award or Oscar themed coffee mug would be a good choice for day 16 in my series, the 31 DAYS OF COFFEE MUGS. Alas, I came up empty handed.

I searched then for a movie themed mug and came up with this classic movie quotes mug by The Unemployed Philosophers Guild, which I think is an appropriate choice for all of us who are caught up in the world of the movies, especially during Oscar season.

The mug contains more than 24 quotes.  I'll not name them all because that would ruin the fun but a few of the quotes that meant something to me are:

Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
Hasta la vista, baby.
You're gonna need a bigger boat.
Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy ride.
You talkin' to me?

Can you name the movies that these quotes are from? If you love movies, I am going to bet that you can and that's just a bit of the fun your gift recipient will have when he opens this mug and tries to identify the movies that all of the quotes are from.  Conveniently, the answers can all be found on the bottom of the mug though you will want to be careful checking them when your mug is full. (More about how to use your mug tomorrow.)

This is an absolutely perfect mug for those who love trivia and who are obsessed with the movies. Does that sound like anyone you know?

Unfortunately, this mug is now retired. To see all of the other fun Unemployed Philosopher's Guild mugs available on Amazon click here. Alternatively, you can look for this one on eBay by clicking right here.

Your Life Sentence - A Challenge

Your Life Sentence - A Challenge
In the book Not Quite What I Was Planning, famous and not-so-famous writers were asked to provide their life stories in six word sentences. They responded with funny, sad and often poignant quotes that are a short record or chronicle of their lives. I thought it would be fun to get to know some of you a bit better so...can you sum up your life in a six word sentence?

Here are four examples, just to get you thinking...

Aged pretty well, all things considered.
Oldest of three; boss of everyone.
The second mouse gets the cheese.
Read the map. Still got lost.

This task won't be easy for everyone, believe me I know! I wrote several before I finally chose one to post and I am not sure that it is great but at least it is a start! (You'll have to visit my page to see what I said about myself.)

Be the next to post your life sentence either here!
