Hallmark Hall of Fame and Lifetime Original Christmas Movies

Laid low with the flu and a cold two weeks before Christmas was just not great. However, I did manage to watch three Christmas movies during that time.

It's not too late. If you're looking for a heart-warming Christmas movie, you might want to check one of these out. I did and I enjoyed them all.

Hallmark Hall of Fame's A Dog Named Christmas Movie - This is a brand-new Hallmark movie that was just released for Christmas 2009.  It aired once and is now available for purchase from Amazon by clicking here. A great family-friendly story.

Hallmark Entertainment's A Boyfriend For Christmas - I called this one a light-hearted romantic comedy.  It is family friendly, a bit on the 'chick flick' side. Click here to buy A Boyfriend for Christmas from Amazon.

Lifetime Original's Comfort And Joy Christmas Movie - A highly sought after movie, this one flew off the shelves of my eBay store this fall.  I finally opened a copy to watch it myself and see what the fuss was all about and I wasn't disappointed. Turns out it was another wonderful romantic comedy. Click here to buy Comfort and Joy from Amazon.

Although the last two movies can be called romantic comedies, there is nothing offensive in either of them for family viewing.  You just might be hard pressed to get your teenage guys to watch any of them with you. (I certainly was!)

Our Shore Excursions in St. Petersburg, Russia

St. Petersburg, Russia, was my favorite stop on our cruise this past summer. Despite the crowds and the rain, I loved what we were able to squeeze in in two days.

What did we see? We saw Peterhof, Peter the Great's Summer Palace; Catherine's Palace; Pavlovsk (Paul's Palace); and, The Church of the Resurrection (Church On Spilled Blood.) Plus we enjoyed an evening folk dancing show.

You can read all the details on my page dedicated to Our Port Days in St. Petersburg, Russia.

An American In Paris Blu-ray Review

An American in Paris was once called 'The Perfect Film.' It shared the honour with the film Citizen Kane. It eventually won six Oscars, including those for Best Picture, Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Music and Writing. Sounds pretty close to a perfect film to me!

A few weeks ago I had an order to place with Amazon and added this blu-ray disc to it in order to reach the threshold for free shipping. Last weekend, we made the time to watch it and I was more than suitably impressed. The film is stunning...and I'm not the only one to think so.

To read what else I thought about the movie and what the real blu-ray experts have to say, visit my page, An American in Paris Blu-ray Review.  (Sorry, that page is currently being relocated.)

To order the movie from Amazon.com, you can click right here to see both the blu-ray and DVD versions.

As I finished writing this page tonight, I realized that I have yet to watch the special features. I'll have to report back on them!

Meanwhile, I'll say thanks for dropping in,
Brenda

Martha Stewart Halloween Magazines Are A Good Thing!

My collection of Martha Stewart Halloween magazines are out again as they are at this time every year. I may only pick one or two ideas from them since time seems to be so short but I surely do enjoy reading them again and again, every year.

This year, I wrote a page about them to help people locate issues that are missing from their collections. I do hope some people will find this index helpful and enjoy looking at all of the beautiful Halloween covers on Martha's Halloween magazines, both the regular October issues and the Halloween special editions.

Titanic Memorial Cruise

The Titanic Memorial Cruise. Hmmm. I'm not sure if it is for me or not.

In 2010, a travel company is recreating the original cruise that the Titanic was supposed to take and will include the same itinerary, number of passengers, menu and music.  The ship even manages to be uncanningly like the Titanic...is this creepy or is it the opportunity of a lifetime?

Would you join the Titanic Memorial Cruise? Read all about it (and add your thoughts) by clicking right here.

'If You Give A...' Children’s Picture Book Reviews

Somewhat accidentally, I managed to publish three children's picture book reviews in the last week or so.  Two of them are from the very popular "If You Give A..." series by Laura Numeroff.

The first one, If You Give A Cat A Cupcake, features cupcakes and boy, do I love cupcakes! The ones on the cover drew me in & the cat in this book took me on a wild and crazy adventure after he made one heck of a mess with the sprinkles!

The second book, If You Give A Pig A Pancake, features pancakes and a pig!  Just imagine what might happen if you gave a pig a pancake and some syrup and you are launched on the way for another great adventure!

(Sorry the pancake review is being moved.)

All three characters (Mouse, Moose and Pig) from the bestselling If You Give . . . series are in this wonderful family treasury, Mouse Cookies & More: A Treasury. Inside, you will find the books, recipes, songs, and activities. It is full of fun things to do.

I love children's picture books! How about you?

Wear The Mountain Wolf T-Shirt, Attract A Mate

With regard to the Mountain Wolf T-Shirt, the internet headlines read:
  • 'The hottest wolf shirt. Ever.'
  • 'Wolf t-shirt sells like crazy after 'babe magnet' review.'
  • 'Google Wolf + T-Shirt and Magic Happens.'
  • 'The Howling Wolf Tee Guy.'
  • 'The Three Wolf Miracle Shirt.'
  • 'Wolf T-Shirt The Hottest Clothing Item on Amazon.'

The Mountain's The Three Wolf Moon T-Shirt is an unexpected internet sensation...since student B. Govern "Bee-Dot-Govern" wrote a fun review about how the t-shirt helped him attract women at Wal-Mart. I'm sure that The Mountain did not intend their t-shirts as a way to attract the opposite sex...and despite, Govern's initial review, the subject is controversial.  One purchaser was disappointed when not a single supermodel approached him  after he wore the shirt for a week.  (I do hope he washed it!)

The company reportedly said, "We appreciate humour as much as the next company, but we don’t approve of some of the remarks."  However, the firm must really be pleased. (Who wouldn't be thrilled to be selling more shirts in today's economic climate?)  "We’ll take ironic fashion any day…. and we’re printing another 400,000 t-shirts…"

In case you haven't heard of them, you need to know that The Mountain creates marvelous, hand-dyed & environmentally-friendly t-shirts. We can all be thankful that Govern chose a shirt that was made by such a fantastic company.  Read more about The Mountain by clicking right here.

Until next time,
Brenda
