Consider Using eBay to Sell Your Junk

I saw an interesting video today by Marsha Collier, the author of the eBay For Dummies series, called Bringing eBay To America. Ms. Collier was being interviewed on twenty television stations across the United States in just four hours on a satellite media tour. Therefore, she spoke with each station for a just a couple of minutes.

She gave a quick overview of eBay as an excellent venue to sell your junk. I agree. As a matter of fact, your junk might be much more valuable than you think! You probably have stuff in your home that you haven’t used in ages plus some stuff that you have never used…selling it on eBay gives you instant access to 80 million people, all potentially interested in your junk!

What’s involved in selling on eBay? In short:

• Taking good pictures.
• Doing research on eBay (and possibly elsewhere).
• Writing a good title with keywords.
• Writing a good description in words (as if there is no picture!)
• Suggesting who the item might be good for, what it could be used for.
• Accepting payment via credit card – PayPal makes this possible.
• Packaging items for shipment.

eBay is user friendly. If I can figure it out, you can too. I started out selling items from my Mother-in-Law's estate. Once I started, I found myself constantly tripping over great bargains everywhere I went.

That is not to say that I was successful instantly. There is definitely a learning curve involved and I recommend that you use all of the help available to you on eBay. I also recommend you read every eBay book that you can put your hands on whether you borrow them from the library or buy them, that you watch the eBay tutorials and that you listen to eBay Radio. I believe also that you should start by buying a few things on eBay so that you learn how the process works from a buyer's point of view. eBay is a great place to buy those books about eBay just make sure that they are as recent as the last year or so, anything older will be out of date.

Ms. Collier quoted a Nielsen study which found that most people have $3,000 worth of stuff sitting about their home that could be sold on eBay right now. What’s stopping you?
